For everyone waiting for the new SLK 63 I was given some interesting news upon a recent visit to Affalterbach. Apparently the 6.3 will debut in the new M-Class which is old news. It will then make its way into the CLK. AMG hopes to boost sales of the lackluster CLK 55 with the potent new 6.3 AMG engine. The heavier AMG vehicles like the E, CL, S and SL will apparently keep the 5.5 liter kompressor engine a while longer as AMG feels the current 5.5 kompressor is a better match for these heavier cars because of the greater torque. The C class and SLK class will apparently keep the normally aspirated 5.5 for the foreseeable future. The 6.3 could make its way into the next generation C class in 2008. As for the SLK the current set up of the front end is not conducive to power output of the new engine. The 6.3 could make its way into the SLK after its mid-life makeover but according to AMG the current SLK 55 has a 4 year life span. This was surprising to me as most of the major U.S. car magazines have reported that the 6.3 would become the standard AMG V8 motor across the entire AMG line-up. I guess we'll have to wait and see.

Thats cool with me! I would rather they keep the 5.5 now that I own one.

slk63 = buyers remorse for me!

The perfect scenario would be:
I sell my 55 in '08 for a decent amount before they officially announce the 63. Then, I buy it in '09.

Latest Car and Driver mag in the U.S. says that the 63 will go into the CLK and others for the 2007 model year, but no mention of the SLK...
