After owning an slk for a mere 24 hours I can attest to the fact that this car is definitely no woman car. It is almost dangerous it has so much torque, I love this car. It outhandles anything I have driven recently but not only does it handle well it really does it with style. I think the quality of the interior parts are far superior to the sl500 or maybe even the amg SL.

Agree!! By no means it should carry the cliché of "chick car". Not that a woman shouldn't own it or drive it but the stigmata is totally wrong!

Yes I have sat in several sls and driven them as well. The sl500 designo addition i drove for a week was no where near as nice inside as the slk55. I think its mostly due to the fact that the slk is a new generation benz as it was just released, i am sure the new sl body will carry over the same type of interior materials as in our car.

I think it all depends on what basis you use for your stereotype.

I classify cars based on performance, not appearance. Based on that, the SLK is not a chick car.

The SL is much more of a chick car based on performance because it is a heavy boat. It more for those who have no driving skill or don't use the performance aspect of the car except for maybe a periodic staightline accelleration burst.

This of course only applies if you use the stereotype that women drive slower than men. Although that is probably true in general, it certainly doesn't apply to all women as my wife can match my times on both a road course and autocross course.

I have an SLK55 and SL55 and I think the interior of the SL is much nicer...The SLK just seems like it is all plastic. The SLK is NOT a chick car though...I started a thread about this a while ago.

Well put. I have driven both cars very hard, to be more accurate, VERY FAKIN HARD. As in with all tires screaming. The SL55 is heavier, has more hp and torque, a louder exhaust note, and can handle a whole lot better than some people think, IF you know how to drive.
The interiors of the two are very different also. I have walnut trim because I preferred it over the aluminum. The finish in the SL55 interior is better also. I guess Ardy has yet to clean his dash, then he will know more about the interior. I like both cars, I just like the SL55 better. Enjoy your SLK55. Maybe you started this thread because you are not firmly grounded in your own sexuality?

hey iam not the one who started this stupid thread...

i'll show you my bro's SL55 , which I think its different than the SLK 55 , the SLK feels more nimble in corners, tight corners, but on the other hand the SL feels heavier, but I like the handling and the interior of the SL ... and the status too

we swap cars time to time, and now iam willing to get the 997 S with the x51 package (381 hp) or wait for the 997 GT3

The sl55 is more expensive because it is the flagship coupe of Mercedes Benz. It is bigger, more sophisticated, more comfortable and a beautiful piece of machienery. Personally for the money of an sl55 I believe the car should handle tighter and be a little more driver interactive, I really think you can feel the slk55 better through the wheel then the sl55 but thats just my opinion.

Now you can say the slk is a chick car and I myself was ignoring buying that car because of the previous model and how feminine it was but this one drives like a race car. Its very aggressive looking and people are shocked when they see it here in so cal. I doubt you get that effect with an sl55 anymore considering how many sl's are out there and lets not kid ourselves people, other then the avid car enthusiasts most guys don't know anything about amgs. Its sad but true.

In conclusion I am just saying after I have driven the slk55 I retract any feelings towards it being a chicks car ( not saying girls shouldn't own them, because thats hot ) but this car is a lot of fun and it deserves respect
