Tyre choices - I get my car next week!
After 3 long years.....it's finally about to happen.
I'm about to have a new Cubanite/Black SLK55AMG in my driveway!
A quick question about tyres.
Several sites go on about the options - funny thing is that what they recommend doesn't seem to be made in the sizes needed to fit the SLK!!
The recommendations are for Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 and the Michelin PilotSport 2.
Neither of these are made in sizes suitable for the car's standard wheels! (F 225/40/YR18 R 245/35/YR18).
My car has Pirelli P Zero Rosso's which by all accounts are kind of ok (not awesome) in the dry but downright useless in a 510Nm car in the wet.
What should I replace these tyres with? (I'm happy to swap them straight away - the cost of a new set of tyres is peanuts compared to the cost of fixing a fender-bender due to crap wet tyre performance).
Need your input guys!
Cheers,
AUSSLK55AMG
I suggest that you post this on the tires and wheels forum and run it by Luke.... Things may be different in Australia than they are here in the USA, I wouldn't know about that. And this is off the top of my head - but I buy an awful lot of tires - and I don't think that you should have unavailability for fitment on your car with either of those tires.....
235 fr. and 255 r.
i did this on my stock m3 wheels (e36), they r the same width as the slk wheels.
u wont be disapointed
I researched this before posting it here - in Australia the front (225/40/YR18) Eagle F1 GS-D3's are available and in stock with Goodyear. The rears ARE being manufactured and I may have to have them specially imported (which makes a flat tire a major f'ing issue) as they are not a catalogue item here and may never be.
The PS2's I'm told are not being made anywhere on earth in the size for the SLK's rear (245/35/YR18 92Y). To use incorrectly sized tyres in Australia is grounds for insurance companies to not honour claims for accidents on the basis that tyres that were not approved by the manufacturer were used.
That's why I need to know what other tyres I can consider.
Anybody know?
Cheers,

thats ****in horrible
there is no way around it?
basically u cant mod the car (big brakes need bigger wheels....more power needs wider tire.....)
i would move if i was u... seriously
what if the dealer installs them?
dont they understand that wider is better from a safety point
