Why are you NOT purchasing PS2's the second time around?

hi guys... im new here and been doing a little bit of a look around. i just got a set of rims put on my slk and im having massive problems with my abs/asr. i cant figure this out cos i have 19'/8.5 (235/35 tyres) on the front with 19'/9.5 (265/30) on the rear. from what i read this is a pretty standard set up that every1 esle seems to b fine with. went to benz and of course they tell me i cant put anything larger than standard on which is obviously crap... so... can any1 hint as to why im having problems with my esp with that set up??? any help much appreciated!!!

I am a huge PS2's fan, but I want to try out other things. Yokohomas (R compound - competition A048) are outstanding. Many of the professional racers, recommended this tire over Michelin Pilot Sport Cup. They also have a better rating for wet conditions. Yokohomas Sport tires are now the OEM tires for Porsche Carrera 4.
These tires are just so brand new for US, so many people don't even know about them. In fact, they were not on my radar screen as of a few weeks ago.
I remember that you are interested in racing and you might know something about this tires that I don't. I will try the Yokohomas A 048 for my track days on my OEM wheels and if I will like them, I will consider replacing my PS2's on my day to day HRE's with some Yokohomas Advan Sport . For me is all about steering and handling response, especially when you drive a Mercedes .

Btw, you car was one of the original reasons why I decided to get new wheels. I've looked at your pics with envy several times. Very nice look!

I've got to ask... Did you ever experience any rubbing at all? I am getting some DPE wheels which are custom made like HRE. However, I sometimes hear that PS2's are wider than other tires.

What are your thoughts.

PS. Like you, maybe I'll get those Yoko 048's on my stock 18's for the track. However, It doesnt seem like they offer a 245/35/18. Closest size that would fit the 8.5 wheel is 235/40/18. Not sure if a smaller patch is what you want being that OE size is 245/35/18.

Sorry to hear that. You're right in that most have done those sizes and not had any problems. What exactly does your car do? Does the ESP light always come on? Does it drive wierd?

I don't have an answer for you but it might help if you give more information. BTW, What is "asr?"

Thanks for the compliments. I guess the big advantage of the forum, is that we all learn from each other and know what will work.
Yes, the HRE's had some serious rubbing issues when you combine the PS2’s with a more spirited driving , which are now resolved, but:

- I had to remove some front fender brackets that were cutting into the tire; you can feel a protruding edge if you check the wheelhouse lining towards the outside. I would think that, this could be a problem for many of the 19" wheels irrespective of the manufacturer.
- I sent back the wheels to HRE and they shaved about 3 mm (the OEM wheels cleared the front brakes by less then 10 mm); my initial HRE's were clearing the brakes by 14 mm??!!
- I tested my wheels with some Michelin Pilot Sports and there was no rubbing (not even close in handling with the PS2's); when I put back my PS2's there was rubbing, especially on the passenger side
-I rolled out the front fenders ( no visible change from outside), and I do not have any rubbing issues with the PS2's, even under spirited driving conditions .

Regarding the Yokohamas 235/40/18, you might be right, so I guess I need to have a little more research on this subject. I currently have in the front, PS2's 235/35/19 and the handling is great.

I have 275's on 19's myself and the fenders had to be rolled slightly, otherwise it was rubbing. I also have my car lowered about 1 inch over stock...

Dinko probably wont answer. He has since moved into a CLS55 then on to a Gallardo. Oh, and 265 is the widest you can go without rubbing or rolling your fenders.
