Cubanite SLK55AMG
Cubanite Silver
Hi Guys,
After 3 years....
My baby arrived 2 weeks ago...it was meant to be a Southern Region Demonstrator and as such has every option you can get here in Australia - but a quick call to the boss Down Under solved that.
I've put together some pics - let's do a popularity contest on the colour.
I've seen the following in the flesh (and as many web-pics of the other colours as you all have!):
Iridium Silver
Cubanite Silver
Obsidian Black
Jasper Blue
I specifically chose this colour and have only seen one thread covering a 55 in this colour:
https://mbworld.org/forums/archive/i...p?t-71179.html
(excepting my own post from April last year on this forum)
https://mbworld.org/forums/showthrea...highlight=croc
There are 2 promo pics from one of the Euro press launches I've seen from the Paul Ricard circuit otherwise the colour seems to be relatively unknown as far as available web-pics are concerned.
This is the reason why I've made this a separate thread as opposed to adding them to the 'sticky' thread of our car pics. I think it's unusual enough to warrant separate discussion.
This colour seems to make the car appear larger than the other colours I've seen above, it maximises the curves and flatter surfaces a bit like iridium silver does but unlike iridium it doesn't make the car look slab-sided.
I find black (which looks good clean - don't I know it - my SLK32AMG was black) makes the car look quite small and you can't really see all of the yummy design bits from any reasonable distance - and while they're certainly different I've never really been into blue cars!
I'm looking forward to your honest opinions about the colour guys (yes I know - the colour of our own cars is always the best...). I have people walking in off the street complimenting me on the car and it's colour - it's very non-traditional for a sportscar and actually stops traffic wherever it goes. No-one has ever seen anything like it!
It doesn't show dirt or scratches and I'd imagine doesn't draw a huge amount of attention from the Highway Patrol...let's see on that one!
Looking forward to your opinions!
Cheers,
AUSSLK55AMG
PS: This car absolutely ROCKS! I can't really imagine getting more car for the money I've paid - and to be honest it's the first car I've ever owned where I wouldn't change a thing. It's absolutely perfect for me!!

Sorry for all the pics - just trying to reset the balance of not having enough Cubanite photos on the web!
That's all now!
Let's see what you all think..

Cubanite is pewter in USA
Kind of funny how MBUSA and M-B have to rename cubanite in the US market, isn't it? Still, when I drove mine home for the first time and asked my artist wife what she would call the color, she responded emphatically: "Pewter." She would know!
BTW, I never considered any other color for my SLK 55.

Hey thanks guys!
Thanks a lot guys!
This means that I have actually yet to receive ANY negative comments about this car.
Not a single one.
That's freaky! It's like Benz have given the world exactly what they wanted in a compact sports convertible (and from where I sit behind the wheel I wholeheartedly agree!).
Wow! I'm so blown away by this car...
Vrooom!
