Got new Rims

Put on a set of Carlsson 1/16 Ultralights with MIchelin PS2s. 235/35 19 up front and 265/30/19 in the rear.

These rims are around 19lbs which is significantly lighter than the 030 rims. Even with an additional weight from slightly larger tires I believe I probably saving at least 10lbs at each corner.

First off the car isn't lowered (but we had to use ramps to get it on the lift. The car stock, was too low.
I put the tires at 36psi all around and I got to say the ride is even smoother than when I had my stock rims. I guess the stock psi was just a bit too high.
Haven't taken the car hard though corners yet but I can tell the PS2's are definitely stickier. They are picking up pebbles like crazy.

One thing I have noticed is that the steering feels a bit lighter. I had my friend drive the car as well and he noticed the same thing.

Adam at Kronen tuning will throw up some picks ... since I don't have a digital camera and hate the camera in the mobile phone. I'll tell him to throw them up on this thread today.

Been thinking about lowering the car but considering how low it is already I might not. If I do I'll probably go with the Carlsson coilovers.

When the pictures get posted give me your thoughts on if I should lower the car please.

Best Regards,

Jesse

Too many to list
They look nice, but I'm not buying it that they are 19 pounds each. That would be almost unheard off in a 19" wheel, and those wheels have very thick spokes.

It could be true, but I wouldn't beleive it until I see them on a scale. Seems impossible to be that a design like that in a 19" wheel was only 19 pounds.

I may be proven wrong, and if so, then good choice of wheels.

An another note, why is everyone buying 19' wheels? Is the goal looks or performance?

Also, why do alot of people want to lower the car, looks or performance?

Weight

trompazo,

didn't you have a set of custom 18 rims that were even lighter? like 18lbs or something? And I might be a bit off ... the rears might be 20lbs. Yeah I went back and looked ... fronts are 19lbs rears are 20lbs.

If you look at the Renntech monolites(a bit heavier around 21 or 22) or HRE (competition) or some other high end rims you will see that 19lbs isn't unheard of.

These rims aren't cheap ... MRSP is over 2k a piece. (and no I didn't pay MRSP) You can get the exact same looking rim from carlsson (at half the price) but those are considerably heavier.

WHy did I choose 19's? For me I wanted a bigger rim for looks. Since they considerable lighter than my stock 18's going up one size didn't matter for weight.

Regarding Lowering ... either to reduce center of gravity for performance and for looks. Right now I"m at 1 3/4 fingers in the rear and 2 fingers in the front. I probably won't be lowering it anymore. I was thinking of switching to coilovers but that was to get the adjustability for comfort. SInce I lowered the tire pressure to 36lbs it seems to be riding much nicer. Anyone know if for the SLK55 you can just change the spring pads? I remember on my E55 you could just go to a different pad to lower the car a bit.

Sorry Nishi they don't come in black. They are only offered polished. I'm with you though ... I would have gotten black if I could.
but give me some love! tell me polished looks good too!

Nice!
Neat and clean!
I personally think slk55 with 19" need to be lowered a little more to reduce the gap btw the wheels and fenders. Well, but if lowering cause problems with rubbing and too low of front ground clearance.
I would choose stay with stock spring and live with the gap between the fender.

Again congrats!
your rim is nice!!

Rofl Adam

I'm gonna be spending enough money with you guys ... don't need to sell me

I am curious though if I can change the spring pads to a lower number and get a few mm lower. Go find out for me adam.

Is the carlsson spring you referring too is just springs or is it adjustable coilover? Will there be any rubbing issue? Can you please give price qoutes on those too? I might be interested.

RE:zaint

You should just give adam a call at Kronen ... I can vouch that they are good to work with.

As to suspension :
Carlsson sells lowering springs and also sells a full coilover system.

Personally I'd get the full system vs just springs. Especially with an 030 package this suspension is already finally tuned I don't know how throwing just springs in there would affect things. (meaning don't know if it would be good or not)
