Brake Squeal?
I noticed on another board that they were talking about brake squeal on the SLK55.
I have not noticed any at all. Any members here noticed brake squeal consistently?

Its a symptom for all SLK55's if I am not mistaken it happens after you clean your car and there is water left in the calipers before parking it, you could do some panic stops to stop the squels!-

My '55 is almost a year old, and has 14K miles. I notice the brake squeal several times each day, and it has been consistent since the car was new.

we have it
At slow speeds, the squeal of the brakes is constant and obvious. At higher speeds, it's never noticed. We started noticing it shortly after we bought the car and now, with almost 3K miles, it's still there.
The car stops just fine but the slow speed squeal is sometimes annoying.

Squeal or thump? Mine don't squeal even at slow speeds, but I hear a very faint thumping noise occasionally when my car is in idle at a light. Also I can even hear the cd changer making this squishing sound when the car goes over bumps...hmmm...

same "problem" here..it only happens at low speed...like from 15 miles to stop.. its not always there.. there is no problem with the car when i break from high speed or suddenly..
but im guessing if everyone has this problem its not really a problem??

Yes, I had started the thread on the other forum and it is only when at very low speeds. I do not hear it when power breaking or at the initial application of the breaks. At under 5MPH is when it is most evident.

I have experienced only minor and occasional brake squeal after 1,200 miles.
After a car wash they scream, but one or two quick stops makes that go away.
If I had constant squealing I would see the dealer to check out the pads.

I asked my dealer today and their explaination is
"there are metals parts on both parts of the brakes. when the ambient temp is low and you brake the brake pads heat up and causes condensation on your brake so it makes some squeal even if your car hasnt been in the car wash"
i dunno how true that is..but thats what my dealer believe it is

Condensation happens when higher (and more humid) ambient air is on a lower temperature object (i.e. glass of ice tea sitting on a bench outside in the summer).
He's proposing a lower ambient temp (which does not hold as much water vapor) comes in contact with your hot brakes and causes condensation.
Tell him do NOT consider taking a job as a weatherman!

Constantly
It's annoying as hell. 6k miles, and every time I come to a slow stop, it sounds as if I'm driving a bread truck.
Must get it fixed! It's completely unacceptable for a car of this quality...
