Update! Bought some track tires.

Well, it was a difficult decision, but I finally got new tires for the track.

I now own 2 sets of wheels:
19" DPE wrapped in 235/35 and 265/30 for daily driving
18" OE AMG wrapped in 225/40 and 245/40 for the track

I chose to give the Falken Azenis a try. I was initially concerned with the tire rubbing the inside of the wheel well since it is a higher profile tire than stock (245/35 vs 245/40). This concern was compounded by the fact that the car has Brabus springs.

Why did I go with the Azenis? As I mentioned before, I wanted good track performance at a reasonable price. In addition, it had to be street legal since I do not plan to switch wheels at the track (no room to carry them anyways).

Price: $130 fronts and $150 rears. Extremely reasonable.

Performance: Many people swear by these tires. I was not let down at all. They performed flawlessly. I expected them to be loud, but they wern't. They gave some audible feedback when pushed, but never annoyingly noisy. Their grip is awesome plus they have reasonable tread life at 200. They warmed up pretty well in the heat as depicted below. It allowed me to outrun everything on the track with exception of a 996 GT3 and another race prepped 996.

So, I am very happy with my purchase. Next question would be if 235/40 would fit upfront. I'll try that as soon as my 225's wear out. Of course, that'll probably be awhile!

PS. Check out the MPG during and after the event!

Lotus Elise SLK55
The only three street-legal track tires I would personally consider are Toyo Proxes RA1, Michelin Pilot Cups, or Yokohama A048 (comes with the sports package on a lotus elise/exige, 1.06G).
