purchasing questions re:SLK55

First post here though I have enjoyed many discussions here. I think I am finally ready to purchase a SLK55 and I have a few questions. I apologize if these questions have been discussed already, but I could not find them.

First of all, do most people still pay MSRP (or over) for this model? I live in Northern California (Silicon Valley), but I am willing to travel anywhere @ West Coast to purchase this car. Also do you recommend any particular dealer around here? This is my first time purchasing a MB and if I am spending this kind of money (MSRP or not), I would rather deal with a reputable, nice, honest sales person/dealer.

TIA for your answers!

I dont know about others but I can say that I paid $1k below msrp. Of course I had an issue with a previous MB that led up to that discount. I'm under the impression that it's difficult to get an AMG under msrp. However, I wouldn't feel comfortable paying a dealer markup regardless of the availability (ie Z06).

Msrp

Paid MSRP for mine back in Oct/Nov of last year. You should not have to pay over MSRP for this vehicle.

Paid $3,000 under sticker for my 55 in April, plus got a good deal on my trade. Didn't even negotiate really hard.

Silver SLK55 AMG 2006
2K under

I paid $2000 under MSRP only 3 weeks ago in upstate NY.
At this level car, I think you should expect to get some leverage. If it was THE hot car in you area, that might not be true, tho'!

Thanks everyone for your response! I guess it truly depends on where you live. I do realize that here in Silicon Valley, most dealers do not need to discount "hot" cars like AMG simply because there are so many high-tech millionaires who are willing to pay MSRP/or over. When the Lexus sc430 came out (2001?), some dealers were asking $10k over and at lest $15k over for a new M3. I ended up flying down to LA to pick up a new Lexus and later bought a M5 instead of M3. I guess I will continue to do my search for now. SLK55 is a beautiful car!

I purchased a SL55 in late February through a broker in the Valley. The dealers in the bay area are content to sell the AMG's for MSRP. The broker I dealt with saved me $3500 under the MSRP. He looked for the car I wanted through dealerships in the US first. None were available with the colors & options I wanted. He ordered the car through a dealership in So. Cal. I took delivery early June & have been smiling ever since. The delivery was 2 months quicker than the bay area dealers promised. Send me an email & I can give you the name of the Silicon Valley broker & So Cal dealership
