weight?

Just weighed my baby and it turned in at 3440lbs. I had it weighed where they saw how much it weighed at each corner ... and the guy was pretty impressed. He said that the difference between left side and right side were minimal.

Lets see how much weight savings I can do ... ultimately I'd like it under 3200lbs.

Also any ideas on transferring some of the weight from front to rear? My car showed that it was around 55% front and 45% rear.

Ha, your car is a pig. Mine is 3,400 lbs! That was a joke Jesse.

Yes, you can do a battery relocation to the trunk which will move 40lbs from the front to the rear = 80 lbs rebalancing putting your SLK at 54/46% (slight improvement). I wouldn't be too concerned with 200 lbs in weight. It will cost significant money & make a minimal impact as your car has more than enough torque to carry its current weight (its not a torqueless/more peaky 6 cylinder - its a blown V8 Jesse - you can pull tree stumps with your right foot ). See ya.

Did you, by any chance, weigh each corner with the top down? I'm curious what the difference would be.

I weighed it with the top down actually ... didn't try it with the top up.

The 55 engine is very heavy, so that doesn't surprise me all that much. Best Motoring did however have a review of the SLK and mentioned weight distribution 50/50... possibly with the top down.

You know, pay a few thousand bucks for a CF hood. This will drastically improve weight distribution as that sucker is significantly lighter then the already very large, and very heavy hood of the SLK.

I also had a discussion about weight reduction for the SLK over on benz world, and it shouldn't be that hard to reduce weight, since the car comes with so many extras...

Additionally, if you contact AMG, you can get the special Recaro seats for the SLK (will remove 50lb of weight for sure), and of course remove the spare tire from the trunk.

One of the SLK Guru's at SLKworld.com is doing a lot of weight reduction mods. Currently he's just completed a plastic rear window and next it will be a CF roof replacement. Check the thread out. Here
