Do the drivers just press the gas and go, brake stand, or what?

Iirc, the best time any magazine posted was 4.3, by C&D; they stated that they put the car into dyno mode (all the nannyware off), but didn't talk about using any particular launch techniques.

Looking for a new toy.
At the track I've gotten my best results with the following method:

- "S" mode
- ESP off
- ease into half throttle til car begins moving then quickly foot to floor (not nail it immediately as you'll just start spinning again, but just quick enough to keep the tires on the edge of adhesion).

Thx for your launch procedure. I tried it this morning and the car was astonishing quick off the line and got up to warp speed.

there are a few ways to launch an auto car, or a F1 paddle shifter car w/e..

The below mentioned technique is the way LC (launch control works)
1) put your left foot on the brake
2) engage first gear on the tranny
3) feather the throttle until and "try" to make it as close to the rpm at which your car delievers maximum torque
4) take your foot of the brake, and accelerate like theres no tomorrow

That will NOT work on a SLK on regular street tires - you'll just sit there and smoke'em like there's no tomorrow!

So that is what the automotive writers did in the magazine tests?
