OEM plexiglass windscreen

Hi Everyone,
My name is Alex from San Francisco, Bay Area. I've been browsing this forum for the past couple of weeks and I've found that this forum is very imformative. You guys are obviously loving your benzies and I am hoping to be welcome into the forum. I have a question for the guy who had the OEM plexiglass windscreen, what's the pros and cons about it? what's the difference between the cloth windscreen that comes with the car and the plexiglass? I am picking up my 2007 SLK55 this Sunday and if plexiglass is a better choice, then I will get it install on Sunday.

Thanks for the help
Alex

Hi, congrats on the new car. I picked mine up about three weeks ago, and like you was very grateful for the help and info from everyone on the forum. I think you will love the car. I personally did not like the mesh screen and am in the process of ordering a plexi-glass. I find that the mesh screen decreases vision, particularly at night and seems to me to be less effective at preventing turbulence than the plexi I have in my Boxster.

only down side to the plexiscreen (purchased mine before they were on ebay for under $300) was that it cost $650+ from the dealer and when going over 40mph with the windows/top down it does tend to flap.

I can only comment that it really does make a big difference. I got mine and it seems to fit very well. Also allows very clear vision looking back.

Just so you know there is really no "install", so don't let anyone charge to do that.

It clips in and out in less than 10 seconds. You will do this to make it easier to clean, and in particular to clean the inside rear window.

Also, not sure about the "flapping" comment. The MB one clips and is wedged in between both rollbars. There is no "flapping".

Some of the aftermarket ones are secured only at the bottom, so I could see how they might flap. But I don't know.
