Looking for a new toy.
LSD=limited slip differential . The SLK's ESP system uses the cars rear brakes to reduce wheel spin or if it detects one wheel spinning faster than the other. While this is better than nothing, it is not as effective as a true LSD which does a much better job of balancing wheel slip side to side by reducing the torque sent to the offending wheel and sending the extra power to the side with more grip. This translates to better traction and faster acceleration .

Blame the bean counters at corporate MB! Kleeman makes an aftermarket unit but it's $$$. It is a shame MB doesn't include one, when even such inexpensive performance cars as the Mustang GT have it right from the factory. Hell even some model Chev Cobalts and Nissan Sentra's have it! MB only includes it on the 65 series AMG's, and a smattering of other specialty models.

Well fishman. I've been told by 2 guys close to MB, one dealer and one former dealer who sold me my 2006 55, that an SLK 63 is coming. probably M.Y. 2009. maybe that will have it.....I imagine 911s have it. Being a former 911 owner, I think they handle better than the 55s anyhow.

The big question with the SLK63 is not "if", but "when". Judging by early tests of the C63, the performance of a couple hundred pound lighter SLK63 should be stellar! But it'll need to be to compete with what's out there, or soon to be offered, from various competitors. Competition is a good thing!

There are a couple caspian blue cars on here, and a few more over at slkworld - it's gets lots of comments for sure!

off topic but I went on SLK world and saw Green filters for sale. Are they sold in U.S. auto stores or should I order them from SLK world. Also, if i go to jiffy lube for an oil change, will they put them in for me? seems like it's a proceedure a mechanic should do. not a novice.

The filters are extrememly easy to do, only takes a few minutes. No need to bother a mechanic with it.

Not sure if they're sold in stores, but I find things like that are generally cheaper if ordered online. I've gotten my previous Greens online.

I don't think you can buy green filters in auto stores. My suggestion is simply buy it from slkworld. As far as the installation, you only need about 15 mins and a torx (20) bit to install the filters. It is easy.

Thank you..i need to change my oil at 20,000 miles, which is in 100 miles. the place i bought my car(used) told me that jiffy lube can do it just fine whereas MB dealer would charge a fortune. i figured while they are changing my oil they could put green filters in...but, can you suggest a place online to order them? is it just one green air filter or is there any other ones? and if they won't change it due to liability reasons, where can i find out how to do it?

I'd like to look into relatively simple ways to increase HP. without major tuner work. any other suggestions?

Thank you all!!!

Try Neal, he's a sponsor here. Forum name is BlackC230Coupe. PM him to see what he can offer you. You can also check out his website at www.EuroteckMotorsports.com

Another option might be Adam, another sponser. Forum name AdamG@EuroElites. I think he may only offer BMCs though which are a little more expensive but of better quality.

I've worked with both of those folks and they're both great to work with.

Hmm on tirerack they where rated as one of the quietest, where the ones you had before the F1 or where they an older tread design?

They were the F1s, I bought them earlier this year. They start out pretty quiet, but after a few thousand miles they got very noisy. The E55 has much more sound insulation than the SLK so I can imagine how annoying the noise would be in the SLK running on the goodyears.

Will the Quaife LSD work in the slk55? I see them listing them on the CLS55 AMG forum.

Ah, hell they would be no better than the BFGoodrich g-Force T/A KDW 2...they do the same thing more wear and the more noise...sigh

Sorry, can't help you there - haven't really done any research into what LSD's will/won't fit the SLK55. I know from postings on here that Kleeman sells 'em, but I don't know who their supplier is.

Alroumi, I got side tracked with work and I was riding on the spare for about 3 weeks. YIKES. I used the car sparingly, I got better mpg with it on. Stayed just around 60, any faster to much vibration. Finally after this past holiday I made it into MB.

I put the same Pirellis on. When I replace all four, next year, I will look into the Bridgestone's. thx.

I run F1s on my SLK - they are not noisy at all.

I read somewhere that bridgestones are heavy?

so do we have a near consensus on the lightest, least noisy, best traction tires?

slk55 drivers

You slk 55 drivers must really put your foot down on the gas very often. That is why your rear tyres does not last long. I replaced my rear tyres on my slk 350 at 23,000km and the fronts are still good. I have replaced the rear Pirrelli Rosso with sVO1 Hankook. So far 25,000km it's OK at least it is not noisy.
My wife don't drive like you guys so the hankook cheaper tyres aud$300 each will suffice. Pirrelli are about Aud$480 each.
