wouldn't the part number for r171 be different? or is it same as w203?

Same part number. I was a bit concerned about that as well, but many people with different vehicles and different model years purchased them and they all seem to work fine. When mine arrived, I was still a bit skeptical, but I have now confirmed that it does work with R171 vehicles also.
