mods

The porsche is modded so it might win ...

Of course if AMG55 wanted to try that 1/4 mile against me ... I'd take the bet.

no, my clk lease ran out in Oct.
my parents still have benzes, my mom has an e55 (see sig )

my car isnt stock, but it would still be a good comparison. i did stay with a e55 up to 140 last night (see kill stories) though, so i dunno, i think my car is a factory freak i also put an evomotorsports airbox on it today

what do you mean by "not stock"? what mods have you done other than that airbox? right now i just removed about 50 pounds of useless weight, by removing the spare and replacing the heavy resonator with light ss straight pipes.

i have the factory short shift kit, lighweight wheels (hre Comps.), no mufflers (-50lbs) and the airbox.

now that may be a problem considering most dragstrips have pre-inspections of every vehicle competing. and mufflers are REQUIRED on all vehicles... hmm

I would stay by the SLK 55AMG but I would upgrade it whit a kleemann kompresor performens kit, the top kit it will make your SLK as quick as a ferrari enzo and a slr Mc.
http://www.kleemann.dk/site/Main/eng...es/nav8engines
540HP and 700Nm.
0-100Km in 3.7sec(0.1sec slower than the enzo)

0-60 is a fairly pointless measurement. By using it, one could claim that an Elise could hang with an M5 on the hwy. How quick you get to 60 is good for stoplight racing and bragging rights but it can be taken too far.

Adding a supercharger to the SLK55 certainly makes it a very fun car. However, there's still a way to go before it can be mentioned in the same breath as the 640bhp, track ready Enzo.

not to mention

that the only way you get that low 0-60 is with Slicks. There is just too much torque on these supercharged SLK55s.

enzo's can get to 60mph alot quicker than 3.6 seconds. (i believe 3.3)
they also run the 1/4 mile in less than 11 seconds. no SLK with just renntech/kleemann mods can match. only a renntech-modded SL65 AMG can match the enzo's performance on a straightaway.

i guess they just do that so people who are watching won't go deaf when a ferrari/lambo comes by their dragstrip without mufflers.. an SLK55 without the resonator AND mufflers would surely make people bleed in their ears.

The guy in dubai who swapped his engine with that of an SLR, did supposedly beat an Enzo in a race (it was video taped and posted on the net). The SLR engine is basically just a supercharged 55, as would be the Kleemann one if you did it. So whilst the Kleemann nets you 596hp, and the SLR engine did 620 or so, who knows, the SLK just might hang in there with the Enzo just fine. I'm thinking the 3.7 is a pretty conservative number, after all, MB says 4.9 for the SLK, and we've had people get it as low as 4.3 (slicks help). We're almost doubling the HP numbers (and adding torque), so it just might be possible.

anyway...

i dont think ive ever heard strips requiring mufflers

my cousin pulled the resonators and mufflers off his ml63

http://youtube.com/watch?v=L862uS--myQ

he ended up putting the resonators back to improve (even out) the sound quality, still no mufflers though..... i believe he's been to the strip w/ the current setup too

Shinigami our friend "Mbslrwannabe" got to 4.298 seconds if i am not mistaken with his 07 SLK55 AMG no performance modifications, but I dont recall he had upgraded tyres.

Round it up and thats 4.3 seconds to be exact, no modificatins what so ever.

Specs

Just to compare some numbers from the same conductor. Car and Driver recently did a comparision between a V-8 Vantage, 911 Turbo, and the R8. The 911 was smoking hot with a 0-60 time of 3.8, and the R8 was 4.3.

Comparing to the test sheets with the Slk55 test a while back and you'll notice that the Slk:
1) match the R8 from 0-60. Killed the Vantage.
2) get to 100mph quicker than both the Vantage and the R8
3) get to the 1/4 mile quicker than the R8 & Vantage
4) has a better street start for 0-60 (at 4.6 vs 4.8) than both the R8 and the 911. Killed the Vantage in this.
5) stops from 70-0 in the shortest distance than all the other cars.
6) has a higher DBa rating than both the Vantage & R8 at full throttle, matching the 911.

I was surprised to see how well these specs look for the SLK. Especially when looking at the drastic different in street start vs 0-06 time for most of the car. The SLk looses very minimal time in comparision. It's the easiest to launch in a real world situation.

Thank you for shedding the light and proving the SLK is a pretty hefty contender to many new sports cars.

That is impressive though the V8 vantage , r8 and SLK55 has their own seperate benefits.

V8 Vantage just sounds terrific, the R8 is the best on the track and the SLK55 is fast and has a auto hardtop roof.

0-60

trust me I don't care how much power the car has ... if you want to get the 0-60 down into the 3s you will need Drag Slicks.

I have the Goodyear F1s on my E55 and they're great tires. Excellent traction. Traction in wet conditions with them are phenominal.
