SLK Sounds
I’ve been looking at the CLK63 black series a lot and really like the car. I was reading the review spec for it from Inside Line and how they raved about the engine sound. I saw the DBA reading on the black series and decide to compare it against the SLK from a previous test also done by Inside Line. To my surprised, the SLK has a higher DBA rating at full throttle and at 70mph cruise than the Black series CLK. When I watch the Black series video, it sounded awesome. Does this mean that the SLK is actually louder? I mean, I could never tell when I’m sitting and driving inside the car. But if the rating is correct, the Slk is one loud car.

just wait til you guys hear my SLK55 with ss straight pipes instead of the middle resonator. it's right up there with stock exhausts of f430s and gallardos. i've been getting many props by people who are interested in my car. i ALSO have been cursed at by many people when i pass by them.

on the other hand, i'm partial to the beefy burl of a v8 vis. the lawnmower-like whine of the many ferraris and lambo's i see around BH/century city daily. they just sound like rice-burning motorcycles to me. would rather a car that sounds more to the Harley end of the spectrum...
so, where's your audio clips?

I too have straight pipes in place of the resonator sounds like a beast VERY loud compared to stock highly recommend it! But are you basing the loudness of the vehicle to whether or not you will buy it? For me personally if I had a choice between the new CLK63 Black Series and the SLK55 I would deff pick the CLK, after watching some of the videos posted on this forum I fell in love with it especially after watching it beat the M6 in almost all comparisons. Don’t get me wrong I love my SLK55 but that CLK is just amazing! Also you can always make your car louder

How do I go about getting the straight pipes and resonator removed.
I am looking for a louder sound. what ever modification I can do to make the car sound louder I want also for a reasonable price.
How much does it cost?
does it void warranty?
the car is a lease does it matter??

o0 great thanks I will take it to my local shop.. any one else have any input on doing this. Does this affect the car in any way except just make the car have a louder growl??

the only thing you are doing by removing the resonator is getting rid of the sound-deadening material from your car. it will not affect any other thing from your car.

i will try to get some video clips of full throttle acceleration SOON.. theres just so many cops around here. i have a clip of me revving the car, but my cameras mic isn't good enough to capture the loudness of the exhaust.

well just some questions before I remove the resonators. Is the check engine light going to be on?? also will is pass n.y. state emissions inspections?? also will i run into trouble the n.y. cops?? thanks

No check engine lights thank god, and I dont think its causes much trouble with the police where you cant feather the pedal in traffic lights when compared to M/T cars.

like i said before, all the resonator does is absorb some of the exhaust sound to make it quieter. it's got absolutely nothing to do with the engine. and no cops will know if you made that mod. they would look under your car and see a pair of mufflers, just like on all other cars. no one could tell you made that mod, (maybe just the dealer). and as far as i know they have nothing to do with emissions. the cats will affect the emissions, not the resonator. hope this helped.
