Looking to purchase soon

I was going to bump my original post back in Dec 06, but I'm decided to get an slk 55. https://mbworld.org/forums/slk55-r171/173527-undecided-still-slk-55-slk-350-bmw-650i.html

I missed my window of opportunity to custom order an 07 since the 08s are already available. And I have not seen the right color combo in the past 10 months.

So, I'm lowering my dream to a more "practical and affordable" selection. It seems like a CPO would be a better move for me, so I'm looking for a 05 to 07 slk 55 models.

I've read bits of info in the difference. Is the shift paddles the main difference between an 05 and 07? I don't think I need shift paddles.

There's one more out of state, but I prefer to buy local.

Also, I have 2 possible leads this weekend, one a private seller, and one from a non-MB dealer. Does MB allow some type of certification for a car into a CPO status? What's a reasonable fee for that?

I'd like to know and plan if possible maintenance cost ahead of time.

Thanks in advance.

SLK55 AMG 2005
SLK55 2005 for sale in SoCAL

I live in San Clemente, CA and I am considering selling my baby. It is a 2005 SLK 55 AMG with 29K miles. I just did the schedule B maintenance 2 days ago and it has new shoes on her. Let me know if you are interested. The car is Iridium Silver with all of the options- NAV, Bose stereo, Airscarf, CD changer, etc.

The ONLY way to get a Merc CPO is to buy it THROUGH the dealership. You Can NOT buy a Benz from some other dealer and then have it certified. Likewise, you can not buy a private sale car and get Benz to CPO it. You CAN work out a price with the seller and then (before you buy it), go to a Benz dealer and ask them if they would buy it and then sell it to you (for a reasonable markup). Expect it to cost around 5% of the car (IF you can even get a dealer to agree to that).

so, if you buy a 2006 from a private seller(the sole owner), does his warranty transfer to you if you buy it from him?

yes the warranty is the original 4 yr/50K mile...its on the car not the owner, so it will transfer, but be careful just bc its an '06 doesnt mean it has 3 yrs left. I bought my '07 S550 in june '06 so my "'07 has technically 32 months left on its warranty even though its an '07, so an '06 may have been built in mid '05 and may have only 20 or so months left but no worries extended warranties aren't that bad I just bought one for my SL for 3 yrs and $3500

True and expensive as you indicate although you CAN buy a CPO car from a private party and keep the CPO warranty intact. I have a 2005 SLK55 for sale that is CPO through MB. It was bought from FJ with just a couple thousand miles on it and we bought the extended CPO warranty. That warranty is transferrable to another owner, as long as it's a private party. If it's traded or sold to another dealer, yes, the warranty is history and it would have to be CPO'd again. $$$$$
