What's my SLK55 worth?

I'm going to pull the trigger on an SL55/600/65 and was going to trade in my SLK. What do you think is a reasonable trade? 2005 with 13,000 miles, red exterior, black interior. Entertainment package, heating package, comfort/conveninece package, doesn't have xenons.

I'm in the market to buy and I've seen '05's with low miles sell for mid to high 40's.

13K miles fully loaded SLK55 should yield mid 40's private sell, but since you are trading it in, the dealer will probably offer you $42K.

Don't trade it in, the dealer will probably try to low-ball you first, maybe for $35k to $38k. You can sell it privately for $45k or $46.

I traded it, the car had entertainment package but not NAV and didn't have the xenons which a lot of people are looking for and would have made it hard to sell myself. I got 40k in trade and with the tax I saved it evened out.

i think someone explained this to me before, but just out of curiosity, how does tax credit work? Lets say your car is worth 40k and tax is 8%. thats 3200. so when you buy a new car, they put the 3200 towards a new car?

You are only taxed on the difference between the cost of the new car and the value of the trade-in. therefore you are saving $3200 by using a $40,000 trade-in instead of cash.

Not bad considering it was a trade instead of a private sell. Of course, that's really dependent on what you paid for the SL. Unless the SL was priced right, it may not have been such a great deal. Congrats, I always wanted a R230 since I had a R107. With the baby, it just never happened. Probably be a S63/S65 or G55 next.

I was actually expecting to get less for it. I've seen 05 SLK55s with NAV and xenons on ebay going for 41-42k range (theres a loaded 05 CPO there now for 43k). I got 40k with no nav or xenons and no extended warranty on a simple trade. I saved about 3k in taxes on the trade so I came out pretty good.

I find it amusing that my SLK55 AMG with about 40k miles on it, still retails for about $60,000 over here I guess the dollar to euro/swiss franc ratio these days helps a lot.

If anyone has a low mileage SLK to sell, might as well ship it to europe and make a load of cash in the process.

Congratz, but you should've gotten an SL600 or SL65. SL55 is not that much faster than SLK55...

That wont work. You will have to pay something like 50% of car's value to import it to Europe if you didn't own it for at least 3 years.

Depends on the country. For Switzerland, you'd only pay about 14-16% for import fees and registration. Add another few thousand to modify the car to euro spec and it's taken care of.

Quite a few people do it for american muscle cars over here.

I really like the AMG package though so the SL600 was kind of out. I looked at the 65s but all I could find were 05s with little/no warranty or lemon buybacks for the 06s and they still wanted $110k-$120k for them. I picked up the SL55 for $83k fully loaded with hardly any miles and in mint condition, not even wrinkles on the seats. Monday it's going to Houston for the VR550 package and a Johnson pump.

as somebody who has been on the market for an slk55 for a while i can tell you guys that the slk55 like most other amg vehicles is a depreciation trap.

right now 06 with little (10-15ish k) can be comfortably bought for about 43-45k from dealers.

the 05s are firmly below 40k.

i got an 06 for my wife with 10k miles for 42.5k and the only thing it does not have is the suspension package which since the toy is for my wife is irrelevant anyway.
