Hey, see if you can get your car dyno'd before install and then after at the same shop to see exactly how much hp you get. Should be interesting...

Aside from it being cool, what are your thoughts? Anything else to add? Notice a difference?

Thumbs up

No, actually I am very happy with the modification. It has improved the low end torque of the engine but yet to test out the high end. Also, the engine has got quieter during idling, as the engine is now dragging less mass from the pulleys.

That's good to know. The 5.5 already has good low end torque but more is always better.....

It usually takes 1 full week for ECU to adapt, power should continue to increase. to speed up the proces you can always do ECU reset and run the car hard for a day or two to get maximum ECU adaption.

The pulley really does wonders on 5.5L NA engines. Check your MPG figures too, reset them and see what you gain over a full tankful of normal daily driving, a few 5.5L C55 & SLK55 owners have seen on avg of 1.9-2.5 mpg gain depending on driving habits.

Is there any negative affect like an underdriven pulley?

shrug

I was told not to do them ...

But if someone here could point out the specific reasons why that would be great!

Underdriven pulleys do have negative effects, but AMS pulleys are not underdriven as per the FAQ on their website. They are lightweight stock diameter crank pulley. E\/osport pulleys are underdriven accessory pulleys. You can do one, or the other or even combine them both for max gains; they are 100% compatible with each other. Its all up to the consumer to chose which option they like best. All 3 options make power, it's just a questions where you want the power. Crank pulley is best for low to mid range torque & pulling power but still makes decent top end gains. Accessory systems are the opposite good for top high end rpm power (last 1000rpm) but don't do much for low to mid range. Combining the two will drastically improve the entire powerband as a whole (but obviously costs more than option 1 or 2).

hope that helps
