I've done it with the x pipe and had secondary kleemann cats installed, its brutal with the Kleemann headers right now. Sounds like a mini SLR and the cold start is just spine tingling.

If you have it done, do post a clip. I'd be interested in getting it done, but to drop it from the collector back to properly TIG the pipes would be costly for just removing the 2nd set of CAT's. On the '06's they moved the 2nd cat past the bend, to the center of the car, some 5-6" in front of where the resonator sits. Not a lot of room.

My setup is
Kleemann long tube headers > Kleemann downpipes > Kleemann 3" 200 cell racing cats > SuperSprint/Carlsson X pipe > AMG mufflers

Has anyone thought of using "short tube" headers? Vadim at VRP has a set and Omey at Aberdin is soon to come out with a slightly different design (recent hurricane in TX has set him back a bit, unfortunately). I am evaluating each before buying a set.

I have a full exhaust (catless & x-pipe) with AMG stock mufflers, and my wife hates it when I start it up every morning. ![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
A'LAF1,
You will want to stick with stainless tubing and good welds, otherwise you will have to service them like I change my engine oil at every 1500 miles. If I remember correctly, I don't think VRP's manifolds are made out of stainless but coated steel, I could be wrong though.

Thanks, 2manycars. Correct, VRP's are ceramic coated mild steel whilst Abedin's are stainless steel, mandrel bent merged collectors with TIG welds. I am waiting for Abedin to get his operations up and running after the hurricane so that I can inspect the product first hand. I visited Vadim a couple months ago and he is pretty well versed in Merc and Merc tuning, but he didn't have any headers for me to look at. I believe he has some now.
Here is a prototype of the AMS (Abedin) shorty header.

Sweet. Did you have the pipes TIG welded? How much did it run you? 40% more grunt volume than just resonator...now I got to do it. Thanks, it's going to cost at least two pair of Aldo's with the wife.

TIG is a high end method in welding, TIG welding is what people usually call it, crack and maintenece free if the welder knows what he is doing. Other shops such as Midas uses MIG, as it's a cheaper method to weld and not as durable as TIG's finish.
