Minimum Brake Pad Thickness
Anyone know what the minimum brake pad thickness is before the pads must be replaced (or alternatively how thin I can let the pads get before the sensors will need replacement)? Is the specification for the rears identical to the fronts? Thanks is advance for your help.

How are you with math?? If you can perform simple math, you can figure out the remaining pad life with the MB approved method.
Measure the pad thickness without backing plate(G), subtract 3mm from thickness, loss thickness(V) that will equal usable pad thickness(R). G-V=R, Next to determine the milage left, deterioration factor(VF) 4000 km for front axle, 6000 km for rear axle. RxVF=km left on pads. The deterioration factor is and approximate, and will vary depending on the type of driving
Example: Brake pads measured 6mm at front axle
G-V=R
6-3=3
RxVF=km remaining
3x4000=12,000
12,000km is the approximate distance left on the pads.

Thanks...so it sounds like 3mm is the minimum approved thickness before I must replace the pads? I noticed that 3mm is the same minimum thickness that the service manual for my Mini Cooper says too.
