Your 98 octane = USA 93 octane, it's not actually any higher, just a different way of rating it.

Headers make a good 25 HP, you can get headers now for amazing prices for your SLK55... Here is an example of just how low the prices have gotten:

How hard is the install for these headers?

Those are not Headers and not much of an upgrade in performance from the stock exhaust manifolds. A remapped ECU Tune will fetch you near 20 HP so if you install those exhaust logs and tune the net gain will come from the tune mostly. Good luck getting 25 HP from those alone on a 5.5 N/A.

I gained +48hp and +40tq with Evosport custom longtube headers, X-pipe, race cats, full exhaust, PTE 55 cams, and Evosport ECU tune on my SLK55.

This is what headers look like.. Evosport custom longtube headers.

They (Top Speed Pro 1 Performance) state they gained 13.3 HP / 14 ft-lbs Torque, that I believe.

That's probably conservative, on the M113, you can get up to 20+ HP on upgraded manifolds bc the stock ones are such junk. Best part is they are direct bolt on, so labor to install is super cheap. Long tubes are a big project

Have you ever tried modding a 5.5 N/A? That's not conservative because it's very hard to get extra power out of a 5.5 N/A, not to mention those exhaust manifolds are worthless!

A better choice would be a "shorty header" like from Evosport and it's also a direct fit, not cutting or welding needed. These would give the 5.5 N/A a true 25 HP increase.

Those header look very nice, but I see the wife doing this for thinking about them.

ya for 2-3x the price. for the money, the best ones are the ones on ebay. not to mention, evosport headers may take 2-3 months to ship, where as others are 3-5 days

We're talking about moding a Mercedes AMG and if you're only going to spend $400 then you shouldn't mod it at all. You won't even feel 13 HP, so what's the point??

With longtube headers 45+ HP, with shorty headers 25+ HP. The K&N's won't add any HP. The race cats will help.

CLS, SLK, ETC
Removing cats will gain some hp and that's probably the best bang per $.
If you can afford it, go with Havoc's set up or add Kleemann sc.

I paid $6K for Evosport's custom longtube headers which come with a 2100şF thermobaric ceramic coating for heat retention and corrosion protection.

Evosport currently has a $500 discount special on their "shorty header" for $1,995.
http://www.evosport.com/product/prod...VO.EXH.M11.H03

MBH also makes a good longtube header for $2,995. It made 31whp and about 25wtq with no tune on a stock SLK55.

Kleemann has their long tube headers on sale for $995. If you going to get headers you should go ahead and get long tube ones and don't bother with the shorties listed above (ones making 13.3hp).

MBH are way better than Kleemann if you go that route, but again $$$

I don't know about 'way better' but they are longer tube style long tube headers. With Keemann you'll get 25hp, with MBH you get 31-32hp. so for 7hp or less you going to pay $2,000 more? Hardly better for your money. If want more hp, use the $2k saved and apply it to a supercharger install or you could have a new Quaife differential installed. MBH needs to get real on their price if they want to sell them.

Few points too:

Those Evosport headers posted are what they call 'equal length shorties' vs. normal shorties. They are called equal length because all the tubes are of the same length before reaching the collector. You might gain 2-3hp over standard shorty headers, or in my view not worth it. Those Evos also have severe bending in the last tube which I can't imagine helps their performance much. If you going to bother with replacing headers go with full length ones. Frankly the Kleemann ones are the best hp output for the $$$ and ones I am looking at getting (also looking at getting their S/C too).

I understand that, but again $2000 difference for 7hp at any RPM on an already 350+hp car? I don't think so...Seems some have had build quality issues with Kleemann headers for other model MB cars, have not seen any posted for SLK55.

Spending half that and getting a Quaife rear diff would yield way better results.

Pp
