Most people don't even know what a factory AMG Merc really is, and of the people who do, many of them will spot the fake. So really the only people anyone with a stick-on AMG badge on is kidding is themselves.

You see, the issue here is there are many people that own AMG cars that do not even know ANYTHING about the AMG heritage. They think AMG was owned by MB and started modding cars in 1996 when the C36 AMG was first sold on showroom floors. These people who held subscriptions to Road and Track LL Bean thought "WOW this must be the real AMG car!!!" Well, I hate to break it to all you misinformed, but the legacy began WAY before that. AMG does everything Brabus & Kleemann and the others do, the ONLY (ONLY. Did I mention ONLY?) difference is (besides their racing heritage) that they merged with MB and began building cars with a specific mod level to sell directly through MB showrooms. If Brabus got that contract you'd have fools saying "HEY! that's not a real Brabus, blahblahblah!" My question to you so called purists is why does AMG include trunk badges when they sell their spoliers and bodykits if they didn't want people to put them on their cars? AMG is a tuner, plain and simple. They just cost much less than sending your car to Brabus RennTech, Kleemann or Carlsson for a full modding and have a factory warranty. Please do not think they are the end-all be-all of the MB tuning world.
That all said, don't get me wrong, I love the AMG factory sold cars, I just think some of you really have no clue as to how it came about and how they are just a tuner. Stop comparing them to M cars. Only the performance #'s are similar.

I drive a E55T, SLK55 and 65 Mustang Conv.
I have a 65 mustang, if I was to slap a whole bunch of Shelby parts on it and changed the Ford lettering to Shelby on the hood. The first real Shelby guy I came across would kick my butt 
, those guys are real protective of people passing off Mustangs has Shelby's I think the same should be the same here If Mr Shelby did not build it no Shelby lettering if AMG guys did not see your car no AMG badges. Wolf cross posting under Lady Wolf

I think the real problem is from the marketing department of MB AG..... If they could learn something from BMW, then AMG owners would be much happier !! I think real AMG owners spend more money so they deserve more attention and respect ( at least among car fans). BMW offers M-sport pack, but no matter what M-pack you put on, it's still hugely different from real M cars; yet this offer could satisfy many people's jealousy when they desire M cars but couldn't afford one..... Actually, AMG is changing its strategy and I guess some of the new models in the future will receive different treatment from real AMG cars... Let's look at SLK350 with AMG kit and SLK55...many differences in details and like someone said before, if that's a real poser, he can fool nobody because normal people never care if that's AMG or not whereas car fans really can't be cheated easily!! So, take it easy wolf and enjoy your lovely ride!!

I could easily afford an SLK55 AMG but chose to go with the 350 because I wanted a manual trasnsmission. Does the fact that I added the AMG sport package for a more agressive look now make me a poseur?
To those who feel that way, get off your high horse - its just a car.
I will enjoy mine and I suggest we all do the same since we are all motorcar enthusiasts here.

Just wondering, why did w208 CLK430 come with AMG badges from factory? Were the 4.3L engine tuned by AMG? No. I believe it was just AMG body kit, rims, etc. There's nothing wrong with putting AMG badge on the trunk as long as the car has AMG parts. There IS something wrong with putting a higher # badge though (ex: https://mbworld.org/forums/c32-amg-c55-amg-w203/95494-whos-car.html).
