SLR Sells for $565,000

There was an article in the paper a couple days ago that man bought an SLR from a local Mercedes Benz dealer for $565,000 and they were saying how it was the most expensive car that MB dealer has sold and the 2nd most expensive was the SL65 last summer. They said it went for 100K above sticker!

There is a guy here in Houston who bought a silver SLR $100k above sticker. He lives in a high rise and on the day that he took delievery he realized the car could not make the incline to get into the garage. I wonder what the depreciation is for those cars?

Don't know the guy personally...but what an idiot! It was PT Barnum time at that $tealer$hip -- and the Sucker finally came by!

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

You can buy an SLR off the ground in the US right now for less than sticker.

Its a relative issue. To some people paying $100k over sticker is like one of us paying $1 over sticker.

$100K is $100K, no matter how much money you have -- believe me I know. Its laziness, or stupidity. IMO
And I'd bet that the $tealer$hip was holding that thing on the lot just waiting for the first idiot that would pay too much for it.....

SLRs were definitely going for way over sticker when they first came out, especially because there weren't many available. But the appeal has definitely worn off becuase you can get one for under sticker now that they've been out for over a year.

Basic principle of supply and demand....people will pay huge $$$ for what they can't get.

You are right. There are three that I know of that are going well below sticker in So Cal and at least another two in Florida. Dealer has 60k of room on them and they are not nearly the item they were when they first trickled out.

There is one here in Phoenix, at Chandler MB for Sticker (and I'm sure you can get a discount if you are "Serious").

I dont think the SLR will be a "blue chip" collectible in the future; they are going to make like 3500 of them, which is a alot for a "supposed" collectible. I saw a Carrera GT for <350k couple mos ago. I think the Carrera GT's have taken the biggest hit in terms of depreciation, with regards to the current crop of supercars. I can only imagine 10,15,20 years down the line all the problems that these cars will have, the F50 for example had all sorts of problems when it came out (and still does), suspension issues etc.

MB Manhattan has two currently available... One new and one used

With the amount of exotics that are bought in this city during the wall street bonus season, you would think they might have sold them both. According to my salesman, MB Manhattan has sold 2 SLR's since they came out...Both to Trump: one stayed in NY the other one was shipped to FL.

Yeap, i went to MB manhattan many times, i posted pics on the forum a while ago. I got to sit in the used one and they were selling it around $55k under MSRP, it had 2500 miles on it. The new one is there now on the sales floor, just saw it the other day. Silver with red interior. Its going for sticker.

You can buy a new SLR for under sticker here in the Southeast. However I feel that interest in the car is wanning and the actual selling price of these cars may drop significantly.
