Anyone elses wheels peeling?

Of all cars to have this problem, we just noticed the finish/paint on the wheels (stock wheels) is peeling off, horribly!

The car has around 7000 miles on it, and it has been awfully hot this summer, but c'mon, peeling?

Fortunately, the underneath is simply brushed aluminum, but it looks awful anyway.

Anyone else out there?

Oh, and for the squeaky brake crowd out there.... the SLR's brake squeak is NOTHING like the squeal from other CF brakes (Carrera GT, Enzo, F430, Koenigsegg, Veyron). It's many, many orders of magnitude worse! We've actually identified our car stopping from over 1 mile away! It would probably damage your hearing if you were too close.

And burning them in only lasts for about 1 or 2 days, then it's back.

Any pics of the peeling?

Here's a picture

Sorry, it took until the weekend to get a shot. This is a closeup of one of the wheels. This is happening all over the wheel, not just in this one place.

I tried to make this as big as I can, to give detail.

That definitely doesn't look right. Have you informed the dealer about it?? Keep us informed as to what they say.

^^Yeah . It looks like my car wheels after 10 years. I get them redone at the tire shop but for SLRs--Like Glassjaw said,Just go back to the dealer.I don't know about SLR but I think the wheel paint is too delicate?

You think the heat from the carbon ceramic brakes may have something to do with it?

Bentley Arnage Red Label
I am sure they would replace them under warranty. Take it to the dealer.

Enterprise rent-a-car!!!
did you buy the car new??
I have seen a lot of wheels that have been touched up, even on SLR's
I dont think the dealer would warranty them, they are about $2500 each, you would have to be a realllll good customer for that.
I have a guy(in the LA area) who can fix them for about $250 per wheel. looks like new and gives a warranty.

I think purchasing an SLR already counts you as a REALLY good customer.

Dont count on it, I have seen MB-USA blow of a customer who buys a new
SL55 then SL65 every year, wife has a S-class and an SL, he has SLR in silver/red and and SLR in Black/black, and MB-USA told him to pound sand over a interior rattle on the silver/red car.
This is not the MB of old, they do not support the dealer network and do not care about the client.

Well the dealer is a jackass then. Remember, all of the dealers around here are independently owned and operated, with the exception of MB of Manhattan. (I think.)

It's probably the battery acid most companies sell as rim cleaner. Detailers use whatever gets the job done fast. Perhaps hammer damage from a high pressure hose.

Basically these rims need to be hand washed and sprayed with a gel solvent.

Not the owners fault ..... just seems like abuse from chemicals or minimum wage car wash employees.

You think the wheels would be powder coated. Thats just normal paint.

In the market
Yeah...that is just clear coat peeling off.....what was used to clean them? There are some wheel cleaning products out there that will eat clear coat. I have fallen victim to that in the past.

To Damaged: If the dealer is so unsatisfactory, why would your friend continue to buy cars from them? The 4 cars that you mentioned totals over 1.2 mil US $.

Thats a crappy dealer that will eventually lose its MB affiliation if they continue to lose repeat customers. SLR Freak, If the dealer won't cover it, I'd contact the MBUSA liason (I'm pretty sure there is one ineach dealer) If not, call MBUSA and speak to a customer relations person and schedule someone from the regional office to take a look.

If they don't cover it, I'd be very, very surprised

How have I been? Doin' well but poor compared to you! lol

Clay couldn't have this problem since his "collections" collect dust while he sits in Missouri

All I know is that I won't be doubting you:
