I wouldn't put much stake in the fan theory of the wheels. Aerodynamics has proven the the wheel wells are a low pressure zone anyway, so there would need be no motivation for the air to rush into the brake area, and Porsche proved a long time ago that it is better for air to pass over the wheel than to get caught up in it.
