OK, I've seen other SLR's with wheels, but this is the first one where the wheels truly complement the car. WOW
Can't wait to see it lowered a bit.

Looks really nice. Wish I could see it in person, I'd snap a boatload of pics. High end wheels are always better than oem.

Enterprise rent-a-car!!!
Looks nice, but they just totally messed up the air flow under the car.
The SLR wheels are styled like that as much for function as they are for looks.
But if you dont drive fast and only want to look different, then go for it.

You sure about that? I've heard about it a few times now and if it's true, how come the 722 SLR doesn't have the same turbine designed wheels?

It's not the fact they are shaped like that..it's the fact they were airflow tested at that speed to do the right things..The physics at that speed get way out wack, which is why talk of a convertible never panned out..they wanted that..(the vision), but it doesn't work, at least not when you have to be worried about lawsuits. Remember, MB and it's dealers can;t vet the customer to see if they can drive first, or how they drive, someone sold one to Paris Hilton for gosh sakes, and she got a DUI in it..but guess what...if she wrecked that car at 210..who is getting sued? Someone..I'm sure...and probably not the wine cooler maker...
Which I was wondering anyway, Glassjaw, did you guys get a signed waiver to do this? Same thing with the lowering...you and I both know its kind of easy, but who's responsible at 200 mph? Just wondering, we have one here the guy is talking about modding..which will destry the value down the road, but whatever, and was just wondering what you guys did to CYA..

That doesn't explain why the 722 has more conventionally designed wheels, it's even faster

I'm sure lots of shapes would work-but you have to send the time airflow testing it to make sure it doesn't do anything weird. My guess is that the different front spoiler on the 722 changes the airflow enough that any buffet by the wheels is negated.
BTW..a little 722 trivia...the letters went out this week to SLR owners, MB is bringing 24 722s to the US, they are first come first serve to them, if more than 24 want them, then it's a drawing for the privelage to buy.
And no convertable......the next gen MB/Maclaren car was supposed to be the aluminum bodied convertable...but can't see that happening now. The SLR convertable pics were always from early in the design life, when they wanted to make it one, but it liked to go upside down, from what i understand.

Mercedes has officially confirmed it will build a convertible version of the McLaren SLR, according to a published report. Zero to 60 mph will take under four seconds, and a top speed of 200 mph will still be possible.

The SLR roadster will arrive this summer, with a possible debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March, according to The Car Connection.

The new model will closely resemble the Mercedes-Benz Vision SLR concept (pictured), which debuted at the 1999 Frankfurt Motor Show, nine months after the coupe prototype was unveiled at the Detroit auto show.

I personally think the oem wheels are really ugly. The wheels you put on look great. Nice work.

OK, not to argue, because , personally, i think it would be cool if they built it, in fact all of the 6 models they had planned were cool, but that same statement..with pics of the vision, has been on various websites for the last 3 years- always pointing at Geneva....but never stating a year!!
And it's always 'a published report'- published from where? I've never seen it..Glassjaw's never seen it...the numerous other MB people on here have never seen this 'published report'..at one time they said 'yes..there will be a convertible SLR'..now they are saying no..mostly due to the breakdown with Mclaren, and they (Mclaren) saying that the partnership is over..Doubt away, and I hope I am wrong here, and they fix it up and build it, but I go on what they send us in print as the gospel- and when they print it, knowing it can be reproduced, it is usually..read back through the archives...when MB annouced no more SLRs to the US..I posted it, when they announced 24 722s..I posted it..and people can check me on that.
There are pics from inside Mclaren on the web..spyshots of everything everywhere..you don;t think a droptop SLR pic (if it was coming to Geneva); wouldn;t have surfaced somewhere?
Can we get back to the cool blue one now? I really am interested about how they handled the liability issue..and where the original wheels and tires yet??? (Hoping Glassjaw is starting a retirement fund.....!!!)

Ok MBTech, relax my friend on the liability issue, really your turning this into a big thing which is not, the SLR is not that special when putting on different rims, if you wanna talk about liability issues, then what about the Z06 Vettes? The Ford GT? Dodge Viper? Porsche Carrera GT? Lamborghini Mucielago? Do those guys have to sign waivers? The list goes on....

About that Paris thing, Paris Hilton shouldn't own a 200+ MPH sports car, maybe not even a fast car at all, look at the last guy who got a DUI in Beverly Hills in his Lambo Murci, idiot crashed into 3 parked cars, it takes stupid people with stupid money to do stupid things.

Not sure if we made him sign a waiver or not. Probably not since the guy buys so many cars from us...he pretty much gets what he wants as far as this car goes. As far as lowering is concerned I just found out last week it's not possible to lower this car because the struts are not adjustable on the later model SLR's. That little bit of info caught me off guard since I thought the ride height was going to be adjustable on ALL SLR's.

Word has it he might be buying a 722 edition a little later...I'll post some pics of that as well if he does.
