I have had this car on order with my dealer since 1999, when the car was just being introduced to the public. He confirmed that the order is valid and I will get the number 1 car at MSRP. He has not given me the exact pricing, anyone have the number yet??? Thanks

Have you been getting exclusive invitations to events?
How about a plaque for your deposit?
If you do not have any of these, you have no car.
A family member has one on order (in Europe) and gets all kinds of material from MB. MBUSA will not even DISCUSS the SLR with us.
Hopefully you are getting a car, but I would be wary unless you got some sort of acknowledgement from MB itself.

That's right. A PLAQUE!!
Also invitations to exclusive events, like 24hours at LeMans with helicopter transfer and exclusive accomodations on a 46 suite YACHT!
I'm telling you, cool stuff.
This car was ordered from Europe. When we went into our local US dealer (which we have purchased many cars) they will not accept deposits on it.
I know someone that works in headquarters in NJ and the big bosses do not even want the SUBJECT to come up. Don't ask me why. Ask them.

That's really nice and all. So they don't take any deposits??? So guess my question is what are the pre-requisites for ordering one of these?? What you gotta be a millionaire or something???

Well a european dealer took a deposit.
I agree it seems really strange, but this is the road we found. I'm really curious if anyone can confirm that they have a solid deposit on an SLR from a US dealership. It's not that I would doubt someone's ability to purchase one, I doubt if any US dealer has the ability to place an order with MB.
We know someone in Europe that has a friend who owns a MB dealership there. I guess it may be a matter of who you know.
Maybe our relationship with our local dealer is not strong enough.
As far as being a millionaire, if you are spending $250k - $300k on a CAR. Well, enough said.

I don't know whether they are still taking deposits on the SLR. But I do personally know somebody who has had placed a huge deposit over 3 years ago, and is just waiting for the car to arrive now.

:o Ladies and Gentlemen,
Mercedes-Benz in not like some other automobile manufacturers, they still believe in, and honor customer loyalty. My point, My brother and I ordered two SL55's from a dealer, when the vehicles were due for build specs, the dealer was nice enough to advise he wanted $50,000 over list price. I told him to stick both cars up his ***, plus the G55 I had coming in end of October. WHY? because having bought over 40 new M/B vehicles between 3 family members, I found it appauling that someone thought they could get more then list price to achieve a short term gain. Mercedes Benz of North America agreed with my mind set on this and allocated two vehicles for me and my brother to a different dealer, at list, as it should be. You see, some dealers no nothing of loyalty to the customer or the mothership (Mercedes-Benz), MB however still does and does not tolerate short term gains by dealers if long term customers are at stake. I am sure this dealer (and others) will be put on notice about their buisness ethics.
I was advised my SLR is secure, as ordered from a dealer in 1999, with a normal deposit as I have made times in the past.
Thank you Mercedes-Benz, for supporting your loyal customers, and not the minority of dealers you have that no nothing about maintaining individuals that have helped you become what you are today.

EU ordered (and confirmed)
My $.02: I too ordered an SLR through a European dealership about 2 years ago. AMG required a EUR 50,000 deposit into an overseas MB/AMG account.
And yes, the invitations/event calendar, some F1 material, lucite plaque, etc., did indeed start appearing after a while. I also have a written acknowledgement from them (AMG) that they have the deposit and that I will receive one of the first MY 2003 (or whenever) SLRs off the line.
My car will be a Euro-delivery, and will be shipped by the EU dealer to NY/NJ - where it will be federalized to DOT standards. No biggie. Per AMG, there IS NO official policy for distributing/servicing the SLR in the USA (as of September 2002).
I have heard several times that I will soon receive color samples and an order guide "in a few months." Do any of you have any late information on when the next package (w/ or w/o specs for customizing our cars) are supposed to go out? It has been strangely quiet on both the AMG and "spy-info" front since the winter testing pics from Sweden.
I would also be interested in exchanging e-mail addresses with other confirmed SLR-waiters, as we might benefit from sharing experiences, especially those of us that will convert EU spec cars.
Regards,
John
