Mercedes SLR vs Corvette C6 Z06

Mercedes SLR vs Corvette C6 Z06 street racing, Z06 is very impressive to hang with a supercar like the SLR.

This is quite funny when you start to look at some of the specs going on here. The SLR is around $500k a Z06 is around $70k...the SLR is at 617hp the Z06 at 505hp. The kicker would be that the Z06 isn't even in the same class as the SLR, to make it fair it would be an SLR against the new ZR1. While no real world tests have been done yet with a ZR1 I can only say that if you have an SLR and see a ZR1 coming up behind you....turn down the nearest street or pull over to let it go by...lol

The difference is the safety aspect. While the Vette's abilities are no doubt impressive, the extreme variance of cost can be attributed to carbon fiber versus fiberglass. The SLR is made out of a material lighter and 4x more durable than steel, and is arguably the "safest" supercar. Still, can't beat the best performance bang for the buck the Vette has to offer.

True, the Z06 Vette is fiberglass with a wood floor pan...the ZR1 however uses a lot of carbon fiber parts.

Another detail to justify the price difference from a standard Z06. While it has the performance aspect pretty much secured, I find the styling to a bit too "Hotwheels" and overdone. Blue calipers? Oversized wheels? Cutout in the hood? That front apron is going to suck up some interesting combination of road debris and small mammals. The Z06 at least had subtle design cues adding to the overall aggressive image. The ZR1 looks just...tacky.

To be fair, those side skirts, rear lip spoiler, and paint color are friggin' sweet.

Yeah..I think they should have made the ZR1 a hard top with no glass window like the first C5 Z06's. The cut out in the hood is for the supercharger to fit and while its cool to see it, it doesn't flow with the car so well. I too could do without all the added on bits, but they are there to keep things cool and glued to the road, but it doesn't appear to be a great looking design...although I haven't seen one in person so that could all change ha ha.

SLR
Just an update on factual info for this race, the Z06 in question is not stock, and actually produces approx 80rwhp over stock. Speaks very highly of the SLR still being able to win.

In other words Z06 has headers, exhaust, cam, intake and tune. Approx 550rwhp.
