'22 Alpina B7,'21 G63 Renntech obviously (wife), Wrangler(kids)
Additional 36mo/36k miles MB warranty is $6k.
Original warranty expires this Fall,car is at $300k now,with obnoxiously dark (limo) tinted windows (NBA superstar former owner).
Need the car only through Summer (until Scud arrives),so not that anxious to purchase that warranty ,probably will pass('06 would be a different story).

Wrong. Just because a car had a higher MSRP does not make it more in demand. It is true, that in each color combo, the red interior is more in demand, but overall any black colored car, especially say black/red vs silver/red the black commands a premium. Black/black is more sought after over any silver.
With all due respect... I deal with the used SLR market almost daily, and without a doubt the most asked for color combination is Silver/Red. Sometimes I'll ask a prospect what color he's looking for and he'll respond "Silver, Red.." and look at me as if I asked a stupid question.
Where are you getting your facts?

What part of the country are you in? I'm in the Southeast, and here a car's collectability is based on the public's demand, not a specific color. As an example, a Ferrari is in much higher demand if it's Red/Tan not Black/Anything, because that's what the buyers want.
My specialty is M-B, and I reiterate, Silver/Red on the SLR...

In my opinion the best color is the one that you like! If you can afford an exotic then buy it in a color that you like and not what others want! Just in case you don't know the 09's have several exterior, interior and 3 top colors to chose from. The SLR roadster is the fastest convertible at this time. What ever one you buy new or used make sure you get "the book" that comes with the vehicle, it has the last digits of the VIN# in it. Originally the book was in the vehicle when delivered to the dealer, then they started holding on to the book and sending it to the customer once the vehicle was purchased. It's an awsome book with the SLR history and design.

More original owners may have ordered silver but now there are way more of them in the market and the brokers I have spoken to all say Black commands a premium just because they are harder to find. Makes perfect sense. I see silver /red's sitting for months on end where black/red are much harder to come by.

Maybe I haven't been clear. I'm a dealer/broker specializing in Exotics, with my expertise being the SLR market. The thread began with someone asking about 2005 SLR prices. People's opinions about colors came shortly afterward.
In 2005 the most ordered color combo was the Crystal Laurite Silver with the optional '300SL Red Leather' Silver Arrow interior. This is why there are more out there. The reason people ordered the car this way is because they felt it was esthetically the best combo. This still holds true today. I have brokered 6 SLR deals within the last year. Five of these were Silver/Red because the buyers wanted the combination, NOT because that's all I could find.
I checked with some of my contacts in New York and Florida, as well as another Atlanta broker. All these men are in agreement with me.
I deal in facts, not speculation.

I am in frequent contact with exotic brokers and know the market well. When you have 20 cars in the marketplace for sale at any given time and 15 are silver and 10 are silver/red and the remaining 5 are black/blue etc. you have much more bargaining power buying a silver car. No speculation about it. New however you may be correct that more buyers opted for Silver hence the main color found on the used market. Why would the most popular color with the most units available carry a premium? Its like a red Enzo. Way more bought this color new so it is fair to say more people want red but try to find a black car used and tell me its not going to sell for a premium over red.

The people who follow M-B's history know that Stirling Moss won the Mille Miglia in 1956 in a Silver SLR, the original "Silver Arrow". Therefore, anyone who's knowledgable about collecting SLR's knows that the Silver/Red (Silver Arrow Package) will be the combo that's in high demand, long term.
And I reiterate, what the public wants determines demand. Not color.

I take it your not a thrill seeker! A properly tuned 125cc kart does 0 to 60 in 3.5 sec, 118 mph top speed and hits 3.5 G's in a turn without seat belts or roll cage. Sorry my hobby is the only thing you can make fun of!! Oh by the way my hobby IS a hole in the ground I'll never get back what I put in to it but the enjoyment and satisfaction makes up for it.

Judging by the cars in your signature, im glad that you are HOPEFULLY hiding something actually worth mentioning. I unlike you, dont look at cars as a vehicle towards investment, I look at them as what i like and what I want, if it depreciates, who gives a ****? Fortunately though I wont lose a dime on the SLR. As to men reffering to other mens ***** sizes, well that just shows your sexual preference. Ive got no problem with that, but Im not interested , and please keep those thoughts to yourself.
