SL top speed higher then SLR

i spoke an AMG guys and he told me that the SL has a higher top speed then the SLR, but they are not advertising it. he said it can hit 215mph and the SLR hits 208ph. but b/c of tire issues its limited at 186mph, but he said that pirreli is developig a tire that will be rated at 195mph.

Question

He's saying that the SL55 has a higher top speed than the SLR? If so, then what's his reasoning for it?

I would imagine the SLR has a better drag coefficient, and it of course has a lot more power, as well as a ~400 lbs. weight advantage. I don't see how that could be the case, provided they both have adequate tires, etc.

I doubt 500hp could take the SL55 to 215mph, it could take it to 202mph though, any longer gearing and the power just wouldn't be there. The SL65 has been geared for 208mph. With the better drag coefficient of the SL, the SL65 could to 208-210mph at best, so its is faster than the SLR. But thats only beacuse of the rear spoiler of the SLR, otherwise as one mag said, it could do 220mph. So its your choice, take the higher speed with no downforce and take off, or take 200mph and be glued to the road.

SL65 has been officially clocked at a true 215mph by AMS of Germany.... See my post in the SL55/SL65 forum regarding this...

of course it´s an SL but you have to take the downforce into consideration. the SLR has some aerodynamical features such as the undertray ending in a diffusor, which produce a great amount of friction. at the speeds we´re talking about, this friction offers quite a lot resistance.
a the most convincing fact is, the the speed was measured
