Largest tires on factory wheels?
The tires on the SLS seem way too small for the power/performance, especially the rears. I think with larger rears, the car would launch so much better. Plus the Conti's don't seem very sticky.
Seems like there's a lot of clearance available, has anyone stepped up their tire widths on the stock wheels without fender mods? Perhaps to 315/25 or 325/25 Pilot Sports in the rear?

A stickier tire will benefit more than just a wider one. The OEM compounds are not that aggressive. If you go to a dedicated max performance summer tire, there will be tons more grip.
I could dead hook my CL600, from a dig, on a 275 tire, and way more torque than an SLS. But I was using a Bridgestone Potenza RE-11. On the Michelin PSS I got the car with, I had no chance at all of putting that much power down.

Wow great timing on this post! I was thinking the same thing can you put 305 on the rears instead of 295's??? I am getting ready to buy a new set....

I was running almost the same tire widths(265/285) on my RX7 that was putting out 400HP/300lbft with pilot sports, and that was barely enough tire for that turbo car. You look at 911s and vettes, they're all running 305s or more.
Seems that nobody makes a 315/25 and only DOT rcae tires in 315/30. I saw someone had a set of black edition wheels & tires for sale with 325/25s. Wonder if anyone has tried putting those on a base or GT.
Problem I see is tire diameter. 295/30 is 27" and 325/25 is 26.3". Which really leaves only one option, 305/20 which is 27.2". Might try that in a stickier model after I eat threw the Contis. Only 0.7% from factory so hopefully doesn't bother the computers.

Nominal rim width for 305 is 11".

Technically 295 is supposed to go on a 10.5" rim.

I think torque at launch on CL600 might not be as big of a difference as you think because its turbo.

I'm just saying, going 10mm wider isn't going to provide much more grip. The gain is switching to a stickier compound tire to begin with.

I recently purchased the pirelli trofeo r's 265/35zr19 and 305/30zr20 and could have gone with the 315s. I believe the trofeo r's fit a bit different than other tires which is why you can go wider. Great grip though, highly recommend them.

Sorry your post is probably clear but, to get clarification in my mind.... these are mounted on the stock wheels correct? I think you got the 19 & 20 up top backwards too?
