One Man's Guess as to Why the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Has Kept Its Value

One Man's Guess as to Why the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG Has Kept Its Value

When it comes to cars, the typical logic is that they're bad investments. "They start depreciating the second you drive them off the lot" is a phrase we've all either heard or experienced at least once in our lives. According to Youtuber Doug DeMuro's research, the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG is largely an exception to that rule.

Yep the SLS has 3 big things going for it:

1. Da Doors. Won't be repeated anytime soon.
2. A fire-breathing naturally aspirated V8. All turbos from here on out.
3. Retro lineage back to the bluest of bluechip collectibles the 300SL.

For those that say, "Oh, it's not rare." There are currently 3X as many Ferrari 458s for sale in the market.

None
I was recently at a dealership that was selling a couple used Porsche 911s. One was a 2014 911 GT3, with 7,000kms, the other a 1996 911 Turbo with 85,000kms. Asking price for each was ~$180K, despite 20 years between them.

How's that for low depreciation?

We actually spoke back and forth a few times - he wanted to drive the SLS, my RR, and something else - I forget. He never made the effort to follow up after a few back and forth. It seems like he's doing more with dealers now to plug their shop.

Great review on the SLS

Yes, I've also noticed a lot of the recent vid's were 'courtesy of...'
I still enjoy his sense of humor however.....seemed he was impressed with the SLS
