JUST DROVE A NEW SMART

Hi All,
A buddy of mine last night took delivery of a Smart. He brought it into work today. We just got back from a test drive and from the passengers seat I was impressed. He pulled over and said tell me what you think of the way it drives. I was reluctant since it only has the miles on it from Ray Catena's in Edison NJ to Trenton(62 miles). I was taken back by the feel on the road. I was not expecting it to handle as well as it did either, almost like a go-kart feel. The rear just went where vere the front was steered. The transmission will take a bit to get used to though. It shifts funny like a stick with no stick(if that makes sense). I can just imagine the customizing one can do with the way all the plastic body panels come off.
All and all I was impressed and for $16k out the door(tax tags incl) I didn't think it was too bad.
His is equippped with A/C and radio.

Funny thing is that there really are only 2 colors. Black on Black or Silver on Black.

Although red yellow and blue are available. The color designation comes from the color of the steel compartment. Hence no other color was denoted on the title or registration. So even though his car is yellow, technically it is a Black on Black according to the title.
Wonder what the troopers here will ticket you for now since the color is different from the paper work.

Any one know what the C-> insignia mean?

Question

I was thinking of going to Catena's this weekend to look at a Smart. My MB salesman told me the current wait was 12 - 15 months. Do you know how long your friend was waiting for his Smart?

How was the acceleration? I was expecting some impressive handling, but the power output is anemic. Did it's low weight save it here?

How long do you think it will take for our Jersey roads to destroy the suspension on this thing ?

When it was test driven, the acceleration was ok. It is definitely no speedster, but I would no longer feel as if I'm taking my life in my hands during a merge onto a highway. You guess as to the low weight is probably the key here.

Short wheelbase with small tires - you will feel bumps.

We have a solution to help with the power problem. Our tuning is currently giving the Smart ~10% increase in hp/tq. We are also seeing a 5-8% increase in gas milage!

the insignia--It is marketed as the "smart" in all lower case, as in the logo.

The current Smart brand logo denotes part of a circle representing the wheel and an arrow for "forward thinking" C>

Enough interior room for a 6'2" slug?

I detail cars for a living and low and behold one of these little bad boys came in the other day in yellow, I was very impressed with the room inside, our reg rep is id say 6'3" and he said he fit in it fine. Lady said she got it off ebay, and that she only had to leave a $99.00 deposit, which was fully refundable if she back out on the car, said it took like 5 months from order to delivery.

I think these cars are soon gonna be all over the place especially if things keep going the way they are. They are pretty neat.

Ray Catena smart center Edison is the largest smart center in the United States. They will have more cancellations than any other dealer. Even though the wait list is still a year to a year and a half, you can pick-up one up immediately. Most of them have a add-on package that includes LoJack, TomTom navigation system, and Wheel & Tire Warranty, but it is actually worth it.

From the smart car of American forums, the point of contact over there is:

Danny M. Wong
smart center Edison
Sales Consultant
dmwong@raycatena.com
Tel: 732-549-6601
Fax: 732-549-6983

If you guys go over there, they have a sweet Lorinser smart there

I saw an "AMG" version in the Frankfurt airport several years ago. Looked cool. I've heard that if you slam on the brakes while going backwards the car 's front will flip up!

too bad they're not bringing the diesel version to the u.s, that one actually gets really good mileage. I think the gas (petrol) smart isn't really that good in terms of mpg, I mean for its size

anyone else with me? or am I just weird
