SMART convertible?

Similar to a luxury golf cart. Anyone know where in California these things might be (Fletcher, Etc.) and how much they run?

There are companies trying to legalize them for sale here, but there are hold ups. Feds won't legalize it just yet. It has DOT and CARB approval though.
You're not the only one who wants one. Some people have brought them over on tourist VISAs, but they have to go back. Not sure how the one you saw is able to stay. Probably has something to do with that person being a dealer or something.

The two companies importing the ForTwo are very close to being able to import them - they gained preliminary permission, though MB did inform the the gov't that it strictly opposed the importing of Smarts and tried to block them (saying that it plans to bring Smarts over in 2006 - but in the process admitting that it will not bring the ForTwo...). I've read articles in a few newspapers around here about the ForTwo saying that the importers estimate they will begin sale this fall.

but I'm buying a 2005 fortwo cdi cabriolet in October (ordering in about a week here in Victoria, British Columbia from my Mercedes-Benz dealer). In fact I'm test driving a fourth one next Wednesday.Official Canadian prices will be confirmed in the first days of August, but the cabriolet will be under $20,000 CDN and the coupé $16,000 CDN. It is the option packages that we don't know the prices for yet.
Warranty is the same as Mercedes-Benz in Canada (4 year/80,000 km).
I doubt that the ZAP proposal will come to fruition. smart won't sell them the cars, and the European dealers will be under instructions to block bulk sales to "unknown" parties. Too bad, but I think it's a long shot. I hope M-B USA "smart"ens up and brings the fortwo in for you guys.
