Electric power steering pinion belt tensioning

Hi.

I got a new pinion belt to install inside my 2017 V250 Electric power steering.

Problem is I do not know how to tension the unit.

Has anyone here done it before?

Kenny.

Got it working a few weeks ago!
I stripped the part from the car and had a good look at it.
The electric steering rack, unlike some BMW models does not have a tension system.

I fitted the belt and fitted the steering rack motor leaving the 3 retaining bolts slightly loose.
This allows for quite a bit of movement on the motor itself. Using a simple wedge (very unscientifically) between the motor and the rack to tention the belt, and then tightening the three bolts secured the unit in place.

MB only sells the steering rack as a unit for R58000.00 ($3000), the steering belt from a supplier in China cost $14.00 CRAZY!
