(See Red Arrow) Anyone know what this brace is for on 2002 E55? The brace is only on driver's side. My 1998 E430 did not have this???

That brace looks like it's for protecting side impacts??

I painted the calipers about 2 weeks ago. As mentioned the brace is only on drivers side and my previous W210 did not have it. It is strange - only one side and not on my previous E-Class.

The spring pads are at the top in that housing. I have 3 bumps all around.

I think you should find a way to paint the AMG logo black or white on your brakes. just a thought.

 

Nice one KEV! Why blue though and not red? IMO red just stands out better but that's just me.

 

Have you looked at others to see if they all have it? Id be curious if all (or any) other like models have the same thing. Seems a bit odd but Im not an engineer so could be for support somewhere. Can anyone else check their car and see if they have the same thing?

JamE55, I'll let you paint the calipers on the "SP-E55" (Secret Project-E55). Red does stand out but I like subtle. I wanted something different. Red is always done. Silver and Blue are natural combinations plus with the blue tinted glass I went with blue.

 

INTERESTING! Still Curious - found on 99 thru 2002 E55, not on 98 E430, and only one side. Hmmmm! Is this an X-File case! Call Fox Mulder & Scully!

I just looked it up on the parts microfiche. It is listed as an "impact absorber" for 99 and up E430 and E55.
I looked at an '01 430 and it had it also.

I am a car nut first, You actually sent me out in the lot looking under cars for the "impact absorber" and then to the parts dept. to identify it. Why not on the passenger side? No idea.

P.S. I used to be a "stinkin real estate agent", i figured car
