Would you recommend getting a 2001 E55?
Good Morning guys,
I'm a CLK55 driver myself and after driving my cousin in my AMG, he's really interested in getting an E55 (W210). Before he buys one though, I wanted to know what you guys think of the 2000/2001 E55's. Overall, are yall happy with them? Do yall have any major problems with them? Also, who sells the extended warranty for them? Any feedback will help.
By the way, he lives in Houston, Texas if that makes any difference.
Thanks!

Had mine for about a year. Great car. My wife's commuter car. Have an extended warranty to 125k bumper to bumper from DaimlerChrysler. Have 90k on it now. Ussual problems, instrument cluster and MAS have been taken care of. Car runs and drives like new. I hate to do it but I'll probably be putting it up for sale this spring only because I've run out of room with 2 other MB's and 2 other vehicles. If you find one that's tight and well maintained my decission would probably be based more so on the availability of an extended warranty. Good luck.

I have had my '99 for about a year, but i've only put ~4k miles on it. It has 57,000 on it now. The original owner had all of the common problems fixed under warranty, MAS, window regulators, etc. (a search of this site will give you the common issues). I have no warranty. I love the car, I just have a company car so I don't drive the E much.
If I had to drive my own car more (15K or more per year) I would probably not do that in the E55 with no warranty.

I've Had my 2000 E55 for a year
and I love it. I just had the p/s pump, and rack and pinion rebuilt under the guardian warranty and it was done at the dealership. I have a 2 year warranty through guardian. The car has been great other than MAF sensor and the recent p/s pump. My wife loves smoking mustangs, camaros, wrx or whatever pesky Jap import. I wouldn’t recommend guardian, but I know you can get a cheap bumper/bumper warranty for AMG cars through Auto Repair Warranty co. 1.888.645.5040 or autowarranty@arwar.com. They quoted me $1,400 for a 4yr or 54000 mile warranty with a $100 deductible on my 2000 E55 with 63,000miles! So if I had to do it again I would have bought a silver car with navigation already installed in the car and then bought this warranty cash. Your family member will not be disappointed, good luck, I had to fly to NYC to find mine. The Syracuse, NY dealer only had one ordered over the 4 year production run!
