Hello all - im a newbie here so i apologise if Im asking repeat questions..

I just picked up an 1998 E55 and its just fantastic - I have a few questions re this model and the 00 update model.

Does anyone know if it is possible to upgrade the instrument cluster from the 98 to the 00> spec. with the larger digital output? Has anyone done this or is it not possible?

Also advice please on stereo systems - I understand there is a power amp. installed. Where is it located and any experiences re upgrades of the system?

I have seen a recent post re the differences, and Im hoping there is some experience out there regarding these 2 above specific quesitons....thanks in advance

What country are you in? I ask because the E55 first appeared in the US as a 1999 model. So therefore you must be outside the US, correct? Anyway, congrats on your new ride.

I doubt that the 2000+ instrument cluster can be retrofitted without throwing a ton of money into it and then you could buy a upgraded model. The 2000+ models also have steering wheel mounted controls which operate some of the functions on the updated digital dash and some CD and radio functions, so therefore to upgrade the dash may require updating the steering wheel, computers and a whole lot more.

The power amp is located in the left rear trunk in the rear quarter panel. You have to remove the trunk paneling.

Kev, many thanks for your reply - Im in Australia...ah well, not to worry - I'll keep saving for a new one - for now i'll certainly enjoy this W210 - Ive owned and raced plenty of fast cars, but as a true saloon this thing is truly orsome!
