Vic55.....Question for you about your E55
I would like more info on your suspension setup. I read that you have H&R springs. I heard that H&R doesnt make lowering springs specifically for the E55. Is that right? I heard they made one lowering spring for all E-class models. If thats true than wouldnt it lower the E-420 more than the E55 since the E55 is already lower? I would also like to know what shock setup you are currently using and how the ride and handling is compared to the AMG E55. Ive actually fishtailed after full throttle acceleration from a stand still from my stock E55 so the stock setup as you can see isnt very good. I wanna also ask you how much lower is your car now from the stock height with your complete setup. Thanks.

All E55's come with the AMG springs, shocks, and sway bars. The factory springs on a E430 are a little higher than the AMG springs and are also more soft.
I replaced the AMG springs with the H&R springs. Yes, H&R does not make an E55 specific spring but they do make an E430 spring as well as an E320/E430 Spring. Both of these springs can be transferred to the E55. The E430 spring from H&R does not lower the E55 as much as the E320/E430 spring. Why?? I dont really know but they are two different parts. Go their website to check out the part #'s if you like at H&R Springs Link.
I have the E320/430 Springs and it lowers the car approx 1.4 inches in the front and 1.3 in the rear from a factory ride height. I then replaced the Bilstein Heavy Duty Factory E55 shocks with Bilstein Sport Shocks. Remember that those ride heights can be adjusted with your spring pads too. I think the factory AMG springs only lower the E55 about 1/2 inch from that of a factory E430 sport- really not that much. I wouldn't choose just the H&R springs because they are not that much more firm than the factory AMG springs and the car is too slushy IMO. I like a much more firm ride, hence the swapping of the shocks too.
Once I put the new shocks in, the car seemed to become even lower since the Bilstein sports are even shorter than the Heavy Duty version on the factory AMG.
Hope this helps out.

Go to their site you can see pictures of an E class with the amber and then the color-keyed lenses. They are very inexpensive too.

Are the spring pads part of the stock car or are they part of your Bilstein shocks? Did your the H&R springs lower your car 1.4 inches alone or was that in combo with the shocks?

The spring pads are part of the stock car and not with Bilstein. I believe this would be a combo of the spring and Bilstein shocks. Like what Vic said the Bilstein Sport Shocks are shorter than the AMG ones.

The H&R website lists the drop as 1.4 inches but that may vary. I have not actually measured my own car but that measurement on the website is independent of what spring pad size you use. Of course you can increase or decrease your fender gaps with different spring pads. The shocks added an additional drop since they were shorter than the factory shocks, but they too are independent of the springs.

Bump..
Okay from my understanding.
1. H&R springs will not lower my e55 at all?
2. Putting in bilstiens shocks will lower my car? (although my mind is telling me springs control the height of the car not the shocks)
3. Springpad's can lower your car 1/2 inch at the most depending on what number spring pads you have now.
How much does the European AMG Springs lower? and where can I get them?
I love all your car pics, but that is way to slammed for me (1 finger). I'm tired of steering around dips, rubbing the frame over large speed bumps and damaging the spoiler over large parking stops.
I just want to lower my car so there is hmm like (1 inch) 2.5-3 fingers all around and not 1 or tuck.
From all the setups/pics i've seen on this boards, the results adverage 1 finger or even all around.
Need more consultation to lower my car.
Pretty soon I am going to do something reckless and go old school and cut the springs.
Wreck
