W210 E55 ECU Question

Guys, sorry for stupid questions or if you find it funny as I've never touched my ECU, let alone mod my E55

Anyway, do you know the location and how to uninstall the ECU for W210 E55?

And how can we tell if it's a stock ECU vs. upgraded ECU (i.e. Kleemann) from outside appearance? Is there a sticker from the tuner if you have upgraded ECU?

I'm helping a friend figuring whether the car he just bought has a stock or upgraded ECU. He feels the car he bought is a lot faster than other ones he tried (that's why he bought it). Inside and out looks stock.... dealer claims it's stock... he said the car is a bit louder (not much but a little louder), even though the exhaust looks stock. Header and/or resonator delete? But I heard that resonator delete doesn't add any power

May be the car is a strong stock car... but may be he has surprises he doesn't know yet.

'06 E55, '05 SLK55, a few others
On the passenger side near the firewall there is a cover with 3 or 4 phillips head screws. Pull that off and the ECU is inside. I doubt you will find any sticker to confirm it's been flashed and there is very little to be gained from an ECU only upgrade. As far as the resonator delete, I found essentially no difference after that mod on my '02 E55. My car was very strong when stock, dynoing over 300 RWHP while most others I've seen were in the 285-295 range. Maybe he just got lucky.

Thanks.... Calling for JAME55... calling for JAME55.... can you confirm that Kleemann ECU doesn't have any sticker??

So pretty much, if we only upgrade ECU, unless we dyno the car, we're an easy target to get ripped off, huh?

The sticker alone costs more than the ECU so i had to pass on it. lol j/k No it does not have any stickers. But they will gladly autograph your name on it if you like............for a small amount of fee ofcourse.

Quick question, do you have to unhook the battery cable before you unplug the ECU? Or, it doesn't matter....thanks.
