99 v 2000 e55 reliability/hp/options

I saw an old post on some of the differences. How well did the new features offered in 2000 hold up?

Is there a torque difference between the 2 years?

Recommendations?

TIA

Bob

...............Very much recommend 2000. No engine difference. 2000 is much more visually appealing. Steering wheel controls, turn signal lights etc. Don't let soemone talk you into a 1999 E55 by claiming that the 2000 upgrades "don't hold up."

i was looking at a 99 and an 01'. the 01' has navi, heated/ortho seats, phone, while the 99 was bare bones... then of course the body had a large impact, the front end was a lot more "mean" looking on the 01' due to the new lower valance. Of course the cost diff was about 4K, so i opted for the 01'. So far, no issues with anything and i absolutly love the car and its power. apparently, the 02' seems to yield slightly higher rwhp and rwtq numbers. Musta been the AMG boys going all out on the last model yr car.
Look for a 00'+, you won't regret it!

'06 E55, '05 SLK55, a few others
You will find some ratings at 349 HP, others at 354, although Ted is correct, there really were no differences in the motors according to the factory. My 2002 made 302 RWHP and 300 lb/ft bone stock. Most seem to be in the 285-305 RWHP range from '99 to 2002.

my 01' was 25K and it had 52K miles, every option except parktronic.

and FAST is correct, the 02' seem to dyno higher... i'll have mine dyno'd in mid Jan so then we can def figure out if its a location/elevation deal or just all 99-01's dyno lower then 02's...

01 full-loaded for $25k and 52k miles is a VERY good price.
in the SF bay area, that same car would probably go for $27-30k private party, and about $30-33k at dealer. i recently paid around $20k for 2001 w/ park/vent seats silver and black, but it was much higher mileage (87k).

btw, another difference between 99 and 2000+ is that the interior/dash board being different older and not menu driven, and also the door handles are black vs. color-matched.

98-early 2k has 10.5:1 compression pistons and mid 2k to present has 11.0:1 compression pistons. But it is hard to say if this 0.5 pts of compression really attributes to the diff hp #'s.

thanks bud!
i actually bought mine from a Benz dealership too! they were asking $28,900 for it. My dad was reluctant for me even going there cuz they f'd him on a deal for a 03' SL55. we had it all ready to go and they said, sorry, we thought your harley trade was an 04', not and 01' and wanted 6K more. but i went in and said, hey, i'll give you 25 right now, take it or leave...after a few more words, i told him again, 25K and i'll take it, a cent more and im out of here! and viola....
