Fully disable the ESP!
Fully disable the ESP!
Just pressing the ESP-button isnt enough. It doesnt fully disable the ESP. Many times om these boards I have seen the discussions about this topic. A lot of you guys out there want to know how to get rid of the ESP completely. Yesterday I discovered how to do it.
My 99 E55 has had problems with the mass air sensor. Yesterday my MB-dealer changed it to a new one and I am so pleased! When I press the ESP-button the system really shuts down. The tires spinn all the time! When I asked my dealer why this could be he told me that there has been a lot of problems with the old mass air sensors. There fore the software in the new sensors is updated to a new version. And my dealer thought that the new software allows you to fully disable the ESP.
Anyway, Im very pleased with my car now. It almost feels like I have a new car!

Maybe there is an easier way to disable the ESP completely but I dont know.
The problems that I had with my car was that it ran very poor. The engine felt powerless and my dealer said that it was the mass air sensor and that it was a quite common problem.
But now Im back in business!

To my knowledge, there is no reason why your ESP should now be able to be completely disabled. Does it work properly when on? What about your BAS and ABS? I would definitely recommend checking to be sure that nothing is wrong with your car's safety devices.
Yes, it works properly when on. But now it kicks in more often because of the increased power. The ABS works as it should. The BAS I dont know but I will check it out. I will have my dealer loook at the car again.

That's great if everything is working as it should be. You can check your BAS by pressing the brake pedal a little while driving, letting go, then quickly pressing the pedal again. It is designed to assist you in situations where you brake, think everything is ok, and then realize that you need to stop fast. The BAS kicks in and applies extra force.

Marky,
Can you tell me how they picked up that the MAF was the problem? Im having problems where the car seems to lack performance and the engine does not seem to pull / rev very freely. It seems to hold back a little even under calm acceleration.
Have had it all checked and no faults have been found. I would certainly be willing tochange mine if I knew i had half a chance..thanks

Marky, thanks VERY much for the tip. MB has never been able to straighten out the hesitations in my 2000 e55, let alone the fact the ESP off button does not work. Every car magazine and TV show I read or saw that reviewed the e55 shows the car smoking its tires from the start. I can't get the tires on my car to even squeal on a smooth indoor parking garage with wet floors! I hope that's the solution.
The way you are describing your problems with your car, it could very well be the the MAF. I had the exact problems. I also had my car checked and no faults were found. The mechanic said to me that problems with the MAF doesnt give a fault code so on the computer everything seemed to be alright.
Since this mechanic has replaced a couple of MAF:s he said that it probably was the MAF and so it was!
Ask your dealer to give it a try. I think you have got a pretty good chance to get rid of your problems by replacing the MAF.
