2007 E63
e55 vs. e63
I just wanted to introduce myself I am new to this board, I have been trolling for a few weeks and just wanted to leave me newbie 2 cents.
2004 E 55 - Tectite Grey, Charcol Bone stock, DVD command, 6 disc changer
This was my first Mercedes ever purchased from Fletcher Jones in Newport Beach DEC 2003. My first driving impressions were that this thing was a beast. I practically blew away anything that I came up against. I did not have it timed in a 1/4 or 0-60 but I did beat my friends 2005 M3, another friends 2003Porsche Turbo and quite a few unlucky rice burners who did not know what the heck a E55 amg was in 2004. I did not see alot of other E55's out there nor was I really aware of any tunning besides brabus. It was a great car that I drove the crap out of on my daily drive from Studio City, Ca to Valencia, Ca about a 25 mile hike with some open freeway sometiimes and some heavy traffic at others. In Feb 2006 my wife had me trade it in on a new BMW 745 IL (because we have kids) I guess the Escalade was not enough.

2007 E 63- P2, 6 disc changer, trunk closer and Keyless go Obsidian Black/Black
Just took delivery on 2/14 of a new (78 amg test track miles?) E63 from Silver Star MBZ in Thousand Oaks. My first impression is that Silver Star Mercedes Should not really be in the Business of selling MBZ cars. It feels like a 2nd Rate used car lot on Van Nuys Blvd. I have been to Keyes European and those guys were allways jerks but at least knew what the were talking about. So I just asked for my keys and Left.
E63 vs. E55
Initial thoughts:
Suspension and Braking:
The E63 is light years better. I had read about some improvements. I have already driven this car through the hwy 23 bone stock and it is amazing. The breaking is much crisper and the automatic downshift and acceleration out of turns is much more predictable. As some others have stated it is much more balanced. I feel more "in control".
edge E63
Accelleration:
For those of you that think the dip in ft/lbs of torque caused a major drop off in the feel of accellerating in the e63 I say boo hoo. The E63 is rocket ship just as the E55 was. The main difference that I noticed and it could be in my brain is from 60-90 mph when Im getting on the freeway feels absolutely
.
I loved driving the E55 on the freeway and took it up past 135 a few times on open rode the E63 "feels like" to me that it has a lot more there from say 75mph-120mph. Keep in mind my E55 was stock and my E63 is stock. I have never driven any modified versions. Nor come up against any. My E63 has also beat my business partners 2007 sl55 routinely. I know some motors are just hot and this could be one of them.
edge E55. I really enjoyed the complete out of control with utter abandment accelleration of the e55. the 63 is much more refined but still amazing.
Misc thoughts and observations, likes and dislikes:
I prefer the old gauge cluster on the E55.
The all black cluster has no depth, excitement or sporty feel.
I really like the all black headliner on the e63 as opposed to the grey one of the 55.
I like the fact the E63 has a little spoiler in the rear that was an option on the 55 in my model year.
I still cant figure out the center console except it is a good place to put my coffee bean in the morning.
The DVD command seems to be improved. I havent maped anything yet.
the 63 has suede on the shift knob maybe the first metal/suede shift knob of its kind?
I have not used my ipod integration yet, and I lookforward to not using the disc changer.
I am waiting for my new integrated phone from a 3rd party wireless company?
whats up with that?
the 55 did not have either of these.
18" wheels? I am really confused on this one. The new sl55 comes with 19's
the s with 19's the cl with 19's and the fact you can get 18's on a regular e500 sport package, I think the same style 19's would further set it appart.
And I feel a bit naked having an AMG car with no turbo or supercharger...
overall edge: even
The 55 has way more tuning opportunites and watching one run 10.95 at 131 on youtube makes me kind want to go get one of those just to race with.
The 63 is awesome car all on the motor, it sounds awesome, handles awesome and the 63 plus amg badge let all the orange county housewives know you mean business.
I would really take either.
sorry for taking up so much time. Feel free to shoot me a message or set up a race/meet to compare against any your 55s. I am in westlake village, ca.
I plan to add mods as they come out. (ECU, Airbox, exhaust, headers) and I am switching to 20" brabus monobloc 2 pc. soon.

unfortunately Miguel's Custom wheels, tires, and Neon lights was out of all dayton wire wheels and chrome fender flares while I was there before my wife maxed out my citibank card. No I have no choice but to visit south orange county and raid my daughters piggybank for something considered inferior. I am how ever really fond of the fake AMG steel rims on ebay though spending $999 on a set of 20's is kinda steep...
Do you know anywhere I can get yellow window stickers made?
Like "Powered by Exxon/Mobile" or "Hillary/Cheney 08" or
"my kid can beat your kid at madden 07" or how bout
"Bush lied and bmoreAMG can still smoke me and my Nuespeed stickers"
I am hoping to get my story on Oprah!

Agreed, I'd even go as far as to say as to avoid pretty much all the big-name Mercedes tuning companies for wheels. Lorinser, Brabus, Carlsson, etc.
Get something made specifically for you the way you want it.
(Carlsson is somewhat of an exception with their ultralights).
