01 E55 with 100,800 miles just sold for $16,099 on ebay.
will these cars sell for $7000 in 2 years??
why such low resale value for a limited edition AMG E-class?? Even 1995 BMW M3s still command $11-15k!!!!!

thats alot of miles on that e.
and you're right, prices of w210 55's are going down the toilet. maybe because of the fact that the w211 e55 and e63 are out making the w210 55 two generations old already.

One word: Mileage. The same car would be worth double with very low miles. You also have to consider the E-bay factor. That's the last place you want to sell a car if you want fair market value.

We all know that the mileage on these things doesn't affect the car much because their built pretty well but I can't believe how cheap they're going for nowadays! Yeah, ebay is the place to buy or sell a car cheap but unless you are inspecting it personally or having it inspected by someone, you never know what your gonna get...

ProV1, didn't you just buy one from eBay? '01 w/ 70K for $17K or something?
I agree w/ Jimmy.... W210 is built to last... mine has not got any problems except MAF, which is relatively very minor and a DIY job.
As for eBay, I also agree w/ Fast55 & Jimmy. Most, but not all, eBay sellers - who are dealers, BTW - got the cars from dealer's auctions. And you know, dealers usually auction their cars b/c they couldn't sell them. Even though it can be due to various reasons - from wrong location to problematic cars, I agree w/ Jimmy that you'd better inspect the car first... otherwise, you'll never know what you're gonna get. But still, you may find gold in eBay...
BTW, I will have one for sale as soon as I've taken delivery of my W211. I won't go as low as $17K, though... that's dealer's auction price (e.g. if I just auction my car). Even my dealer offers me a lot higher than that.

actually the AMG market has stabilized here especially the E55s. The W208 CLK55s took a dump from 5-10k over W210 E55 to now being equal with W210 E55 AMG. All the 00-02 E55's are in the 19k-25k range and have been for over 18 months so its actually quite stable in this range as long as mileage isn't stupid high. they should stay in the 18-25k range for the next 9 months before they start to drop again.

Pretty much stock '01 E55 w/ few options (no NAV & parkrtonic). Obsidian black / charcoal leather. 72K on the clock. Never been abused, quite excellent condition - few rock chips and a small scratch at the edge of rear bumper (almost invisible). Non-problematic engine - up-to-date service (Service A was recently done). CA car - no rust, never seen snow, salt or sand. No accident, no body work or paint job.

LOL... I love black cars.... my W211 will be black/brown (mocha).
I know it's PITA to maintain it.... but hey, high-maintenance girls are usually pretty
So you're not buying the one you won at eBay? It's pretty close to you but you know, it's midwest car.... lots of surface rust on the undercarriage I presume.

Condition is key. I also believe that a reliable/solid warranty boosts value by several thousand. Interesting that the W210/55s are going for about the same as the CLKs that sold new for $6-8K less than the sedans (MSRP pricing). Of course, I remember seeing a USED MY 2001 CLK55 on the showroom floor in in the fall of 2000 with a sticker at $89,990!

So if one was to sell an 02 W210 E55 with around 10k mi on it(no options) how much do you think one could get?

Rusnak has a loaded '02 with 50K plus miles, and they still want 35K for it. A "stripped" model will hurt it's value a little, but a pristine example with only 10K should bring 30K+ on a private sale if you're willing to hold out for the right buyer. If it were mine, I wouldn't let go for less than 30K no matter what. A year later and I'm still kicking myself for selling mine.

^^ 02 with 55kmi for $35k? Damn! That's just plain crazy. Was contemplating on selling mine but after just can't seem to do so.
When the 211 55's first came out my dealer kept calling me to test drive one out and see if i wanted to upgrade. After doing so the quality just wasn't the same. Engine wise no complaint but the interior just wasn't doing it for me so i took a different route and worked out pretty well.

James,
You probably have more in mods than the car is worth, so if I were you, I wouldn't even consider selling it. A dealer would give you less if anything, for all you have done. Too bad the car is silver, or I'd take it off your hands.
As far as the W211's, it ain't just the interior that isn't up to the quality of the W210's.

I bought my 1999 E55 w/ 53k miles off ebay a couple of years ago. I had the seller take it to his closest Mercedes dealer and I paid them ~225 to inspect it for me. It worked out really well for me. We do not drive it all that much, it has ~61k now.

Did you do the pre-purchase exam before or after you won the auction?
