if you look at the pads closely the bottom side of them have dots on them showing what pad number you have.
example: you see 3 dots marked on the pad, you have #3 pad
depending on the market, also options sometimes, in stock form could come in different pads.
most common stock pads on w210 e55 is #2 front, #3 rear.

#1 pads are thinnest
#5 pads are thickest

do a search for exact measurements, i don't have that handy right now

right been to my local mercedes dealer and order some pads.... they listed 2-5 for front NO 1#s......... rear had 1-4.. so ordered 1#s

so mine will sit on pad2#s front and pad1#s rear????

am i wrong that i thought you could get front #1 pads?? as they simply said NO 2#s are lowest.

oh and 2#fronts are 9mm and go up in 4mm steps
same with rears 4mm steps

ok here you go;
2 pads PART# A2103210184
2 pads PART# A2103250184

these are all #1 pads for front and rear... take a look what kind of pads you have in your car now... you can tell by removing the wheel and looking at the top of the spring you should be able to see bumps on the pads, 1 bump #1pads 2 bumps #2 pads and so on check just one side of the car otehr side should be the same... one more thing look how your car sits right now and if front sits higher then rear you might want to put #1 pads in front and #2 in back usulay car comes with #3 in back and #4 up front... good luck
