But what im after is ... at front of engine at top is a black plastic thing / directly in middle at top of engine, alloy bracket holding it.....

What is this????

mine doesn't have this just the bracket that looks like something should be there but isn't all plugs and wires there , tired up nicely..? but have no idea what the hell it is

and to make even more clearer, the black plastic thing at front of inlet manifold between those 2 gold things???

yea i was going to ask the same...mine doenst have this black thing..but it looks like there should be one..is urs a euro edition??? cuz mine is the euro and doenst have this.so i guess the euro dont use this?? well hope someone answers

yeah im in UK buddy...... mine is a euro car.... as you said looks like something should be there, and when i say this i thought!!!!!!!! dam it where's mine.... i have since found another uk car for sale by me withouth this black bit so ... yes looks like it isn't on euro cars....

do hope someone lets me know what it is though.

My underhood diagram says that it is a switching valve, which I believe has something to do with cold start emissions. Probably a US only thing.

If you are talking about the black turbine looking thing with the aluminum bracket holding it that is the airpump which works with emissions. Our BMW's from 1999 up come with these pumps too. If you don't have this on your MB this is perhaps just a U.S. Emissions thing.

i thought it looked like an air pump thing ....... mine def dont have one...... nor has any other euro one i have seen.
