2002 e55 w211 ....
cars are always colder 1st thing BUT you should never go for it untill it is warm!! EVER!!!
on cold day air is denser so yes car would be quicker.....
But i have noticed these cars TOTALLY SUFFER FROM HEAT SOAK!!!!!
i have added some simple DIY reflective stuff on bottom of air box which helps a little (i think) the only other way is to feed some cold air into engine area from bumper to try and help..... i mean the design itself is a little poor have the Air box right on top... the later w211's and other models have the different BOX which locates them either side of the inlet manifold instead of on top this must help a little....... i simply will be looking to put a feed from outside in and try and HELP LOWER temp under bonnet a little.
hope this helps a little

I agree, always wait for the car to warm up or you could cause valve and lifter damage among lots of other things! Palmer has some good points on reducing heat soak...
