Towing a trailer with an E55

Hey I have a 99 E55 and was thinking about towing a small motorcycle trailer with it. I have been getting mixed answers so thought I would ask here. The car no dought has the power for it, just kind of concerned about the tranny, but what is the difference between a trailer and a fully loaded car really? Anyway any advice would help. Thanks.

hi mate, if im not mistaked the tranny from ours is the same one fron a S600 Bi-turbo so i think it will take what ever you chuck at it really... i would imagin.

as for the towing yes it has no problem pulling a HOUSE let alone a bike... BUT.. i too was going to fit one UNTILL i visited my local MB dealer, who showed me that in the hand book you will see there is no values next to the e55 for towing..... that is simply due to the fact AMG (mercedes) say you shouldn't and if you do and something goes wrong they WILL NOT pay on any waranty claims e.g. if tranny goes, wheel bearings etc etc anything that can be linked to towing they WILL NOT PY OUT FOR!

and it was at that point a bought a cheaper car to tow with!!!

hope this helps even if its just a little

OH AND HAPPY NEW YEAR TO EVERYONE

Ya warranty is the least of my worries as it is a 9 year old car now, so guess here goes a trailer hitch I will let you all know how it works out.

Be Careful!!!!

I'd be really careful towing with this car. If you find it's hunting for gears, you may really burn up the transmission quickly - especially up hills. It's a tranny built and geared for performance, not towing. You may consider a transmission cooler as well to guard against burning the thing up...

AMG bumpers need to be cut in order to fit a towbar IIRC
