Cool LED lamps questions...

After reading about someone who installed white LED bulbs all over his E55....I purchased two 39mm bulbs to utilize over the top of my rear license plate.

Once I got the polarization correct...the new bulbs looked modern and fantastic. However....there is a problem!
Now my "LAMP OUT" warning indicator comes on every time I turn on my headlamps! The only way for me to turn off the warning indicator on my dash is to press the tiny "R" button on the dash panel.

Does anyone know how to make these LED lamps operate without having the "LAMP OUT" warning light come on the dash???

Also....I happend to notice that the new Lexus LS600 sedans come factory equipped with white LED lights over their back license plates...and its a very cool look. (although I'd never own a Japanese car!)

I think you need a resistor in there somewhere. Read something like that in other posts. Hopefully you'll find the info in one of these posts:

Unhappy yeah....needs 15om resister...the heck with it

I found out it requires a 15 om resister between the wires of the bulb housings....
I decided to put my stock 6418 bulbs back in....at least my "LAMP OUT" warning light stops illuminating on my dash now....
Its too bad those LED bulbs do not work by simply plugging them into the sockets...they looked great...

Bummer! Isn't it a simple thing to add? Not worth the trouble? From what I recall, it does work fine without it and the resistor is just for the purpose of the error. I guess the error works by monitoring the load on the total circuit using standard bulbs, so if it's out of whack as a result of the LED's taking less load, it thinks a bulb is out.

I just came across this post for BMW -- LED for license plate "no resistor required"
http://www.europeanautosource.com/pr...b733f36c621150

So there might be hope for a similar solution for the mercedes if you search around.

If not, this site has a cheap device to handle the resistor functions:
